Lamborghini and BMW start 2014 with strong sales

Two of the world’s leading manufacturers of luxury motor vehicles, BMW and Lamborghini have started 2014 in a strong fashion.

BMW who’s stable of brands include Mini, Rolls-Royce and of course BMW recorded their best ever sales figures for February. Last year, to this point the group had managed 256,933 deliveries to customers, this year the number for the same period was 273,999 an increase of 6.6% over the previous year. In february alone, the group delivered just under 125,000 BMW brand vehicles an increase of 8.6% (prev. yr. 114,909). Year-to-date sales rose 8.9% with 242,017 BMW brand vehicles delivered compared with the same period last year (222,211). Demand for the BMW X3 was high in the first two months of 2014 with a total of 23,980 vehicles delivered to customers (prev. yr. 20,767/ +15.5%). The BMW 5 series was another significant growth driver with sales rising 11.4% to 55,758 (prev. yr. 50,057).

February 2014 saw 15,975 MINIs delivered to customers (prev. yr. 18,527/ -13.8%). The sales slow-down is due to the model change-over with the new MINI, which will go on sale from mid-March. Sales of the MINI Clubman remain strong: in the first two months of the year, a total of 2,532 vehicles were delivered to customers, an increase of 22.5% on the same period last year (2,067). It wasn’t just the car brands that performed well, BMW Motorrad sales in February also increased by 18.3% compared with the same month last year (8,098 / prev. yr. 6,847) with a total of 13,536 motorcycles delivered worldwide in the first two months of the year (prev. yr. 11,665/ +16.0%).

Lamborghini’s worldwide deliveries up from 2,083 to 2,121 cars

With worldwide deliveries to customers increasing from 2,083 to 2,121 units, the Italian super sports car manufacturer improved its sales for the third consecutive year. These sales figures are outperforming the market trends in the super sports car segment.

The turnover shows a solid growth by 8 % from 469 million euros to 508 million euros. This overproportional increase compared to deliveries is due to an improved model mix; in 2013, 1,001 units of the top model, the V12 powered Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 were sold. This is a record for V12 powered Lamborghini models and represents a 9% increase from 922 units sold in 2012. Two and a half years after its market introduction the order bank for both Coupé and Roadster still covers the next 12 months’ production. Overall, 2013 was another positive year in terms of profitability.

In its final year of production, the evergreen Lamborghini Gallardo recorded remarkably stable deliveries of 1,120 units following 2012 when 1,161 Gallardo were sold. With 14,022 units sold over its entire lifecycle, this makes the Gallardo the bestselling Lamborghini of all time to date.
