The Centurion and Centurion Imperial from Grieb & Benzinger

Grieb & Benzinger, the German watch manufacturers that have carved out a niche in the world of skeletonised watches have unveiled two more additions to their ever-growing catalogue of high-end timepieces, the Centurion and the jewelled Centurion Imperial.

These two new bespoke-made platinum watches were created by request for a watch connoisseur. This interesting request inspired Georg Bartkowiak, one of the brands co-founders to take the company’s best-selling timepiece, the Black Tulip and customise this model into two new pieces that met the customers required specification. The Black Tuplip was already a good-looking watch and this has been further transformed into an even more glamorous, yet simultaneously understated, high-end timepiece with an all-black appearance. The idea of the totally understated value of solid Platinum (PT950) beneath a blackened surface in combination with pure hand-skeletonization appealed to this client’s ideal of discreet taste. It’s a little like an unbadged Brabus supercar, eveything looks fairly normal from the outside but underneath the skin is something extraordinary.

Everything is not completely discreet as the watchmaker’s took the understated look of the Centurion and added a bevel with 66 red diamonds to create the second piece, the Centurion Imperial.

The Centurion is powered by a blackened manually wound movement and is fully skeletonized with guilloché engraved by hand. It has a solid, completely blackened platinum PT950 case measuring 43 mm in diameter coupled with a black alligator-skin strap with solid platinum PT950 blackened buckle. As mentioned previously the Imperial version differentiates itself with a bezel set with 66 red Princess-cut diamonds.
