New Timepieces: Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph

Patek Philippe, the brand that sits on top of almost every serious watch collectors must-have list have launched a new addition to the Nautilus range in the form of the Travel Time Chronograph.

This new addition to the Nautilus range is endowed with the Travel Time function, essentially it allows you to view two different time zones at a glance. Visually the watch is nice to look at and suitable for pretty much all environments, it’s a highly masculine looking watch and would probably be best suited to a thicker wrist. The styling is both classic and modern and continues with the design legacy implemented by the original designer of the Nautilus, Gerald Genta.

The display of a second time zone and the chronograph are two complications that aptly symbolize personal mobility and the active lifestyles of our era: at home all around the world but always with a close eye on home. For the time-zone function, the Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph has two hour hands on the same axis.

The lower one is skeletonized, and the upper one matches the style of the minute hand. The skeleton hand displays home time while the solid hour hand indicates local time. At home, where both times are identical, the two hands are superposed. The integration of the Travel Time function in the Nautilus chronograph necessitated the redesign of the case and the development of a new movement. Thanks to its characteristic porthole contour with two lateral hinges, the Nautilus case was ideal for this venture. While the right-hand hinge protects the crown, the one on the opposite side was replaced with the plus and minus correctors. Because they precisely follow the original outline of the case, the unmistakable Nautilus design is preserved.
