Art Curator Adam Waymouth launches new Insider Experience from InterContinental® Dublin – Inside the Mind of Francis Bacon
InterContinental® Hotels & Resorts kick starts 2016 by launching the latest of its Insider Experiences with an exceptional journey of discovery from InterContinental® Dublin in Ballsbridge.
Dedicated to those who appreciate and enjoy the ‘intercontinental life’, the glamour and exhilaration of fascinating places and fresh perspectives, InterContinental Dublin in partnership with Dublin City Gallery, The Hugh Lane, invited esteemed Art Curator, Adam Waymouth, to share his personal perspective on the hotel’s extraordinary experience: Inside the Mind of Francis Bacon, in a beautifully crafted short film.
Throughout the film, Waymouth reveals rare and unseen material comprising Bacon’s most personal assets, including the Irish artist’s studio and its entire contents from floor to ceiling. In 1998, following his death, the studio was carefully relocated from London to Dublin and painstakingly reinstated to its original condition, creating a truly unique and authentic gallery space.
Drawing on his passion for art, Waymouth weaves a compelling trail of discovery through some of the most beautiful sites surrounding InterContinental Dublin, before arriving at Dublin City Gallery, The Hugh Lane. Here, Author and Curator of the Francis Bacon Studio, Dr Barbara Dawson brings Waymouth on a deeply moving behind-the-scenes tour. As part of this Insider Experience, Waymouth discovers some of Bacon’s most iconic pieces and shares personal reflections on Bacon’s life and work, before Dr Dawson unveils some of the artist’s most closely guarded archive material.
“This Insider Experience wholly draws on my passion points. Francis Bacon’s impact on the art world is still palpable today and has unquestionably stood the test of time,” says Waymouth.
He continues: “I spend my life surrounded by experts within the art world, learning about artists like Bacon… and yet nothing could give a deeper insight into his mind and work than a personal interaction with the inspiring Dr Barbara Dawson and the opportunity to absorb the magic of Bacon’s materials and personal artefacts at close-hand; it was overwhelming.”
