Austria's Schlosshotel Fiss Celebrates A Five-Star Rating

The five-star Schlosshotel Fiss in Austria boasts one of the most enviable positions in the Tyrol, we sent Sabi Phagura to this beautiful mountain region to discover more

From a hunting lodge to a fabulous five-star hotel, Schlosshotel Fiss has earned itself a high reputation in Austrian’s Tyrol region. Standing as strong as the mountains it’s surrounded by, the hotel is defined by stunning architecture, exquisite furnishings, a tranquil spa and unrivalled family-friendly hospitality. Sabi Phagura went along to find out what makes this place a must-visit destination.

As soon as I arrive at a new destination, I just never know where to start. With so much to do – usually squeezed into a very short space of time – my mind often battles with deciding whether to explore the hotel or venture out into the great outdoors. Greedily I want it all in one go. But the decision at the Schlosshotel Fiss Hotel was made remarkably easy.

One look at the Aqua Monte indoor-outdoor pool overlooking the impressive Tyrolean mountain peaks at an altitude of 1,436m, had me slipping into my bathing costume in a flash and immersed into the crystal clear mountain spring water.

What started as a humble hunting lodge and guesthouse in 1940 hosting local dances and events, was just this year awarded five stars. The Domenig family laboriously began writing its history after acquiring it in 1991, and today, it’s very much part of the Tyrol region as the surrounding scenery and mountains. In fact, it is so connected to nature, it’s the only hotel in Fiss with direct slope access.

Keeping with the nature theme, I noticed you are never too far away from the outdoors within the confines of Schlosshotel. From the balcony in my incredibly large room (135 rooms and suites in total), to three generous sun terraces, Bistro restaurant and the huge windows in the dining area, you’re always in close proximity to the mesmerising views. I found myself staring out of the various windows throughout the hotel on numerous occasions to get different vantage points of the mountains.

And in my Alpine style room, the only time my TV was switched on, was to listen to a spot of background music as I indulged with a soak in the oversized bath surrounded by Susanne Kaufmann goodies.

Always one to champion a spa because it meets the needs of the mind, body and spirit, I spent several hours in the 5,000sqm of pure indulgence. With so much to do, such as the salt and aromatherapy steam rooms with peelings (honey was the best), an outdoor saltwater Jacuzzi with a sunbathing lawn, spa showers, plunge pool, family spa, silent lounge and wellness lounge with open fire and the Relax Pavilion with heated waterbeds, I found I had unintentionally undergone a digital detox. If it wasn’t for work, I could have got used to this switch off. Still, I delayed being reunited with my gadgets by receiving two treatments in one of the 14 spa treatment rooms. I was utterly spoiled with a full body massage and a facial using Pharmos Natur products.

The back to the roots natural green potions had me drifting off to sleep such was the power of them and the therapist’s expertise.
