Interior designers to the ultra-rich are many, but few lack the design credentials, superb eye for detail and a bulging contacts book like Martin Kemp
Founder of Martin Kemp Design, Kemp is the former creative director of Candy & Candy, the design group responsible for the iconic One Hyde Park in London’s elegant Knightsbridge.
At MKD, Kemp oversees the creation of the world’s finest design solutions for interiors, developments, architecture, yachts, private jets, cars, furniture and product.
The company’s focus is largely within the super-prime residential market, but also embraces peripheral fields such as high-end retail, office and restaurant design.
Their clients choose MKD for its ability to interpret their chosen style, whether it be minimalist or highly decorative, classic or futuristic.
And whatever style they commission, MKD’s HNW clients expect a high level of sophistication and finish, which is exactly what they receive.
Bespoke solutions can range from understated country elegance to dynamic city chic, showcasing the very best in creativity with a diverse range of styling blending seamlessly into every commission.
MKD’s design originality is enhanced with striking attention to detail, married with fine craftsmanship sourced within the UK and internationally. Kemp himself is hands on with all projects, from start to finish. This ensures a cohesive end result of the vision throughout the project.
Kemp’s background was a design degree at the Welsh School of Art & Design in Cardiff, followed by a further year at the L’Ecole des Beaux Art Decoratif in Strasbourg. His career began in London at Virgile & Stone and at Rodney Fitch among many other design studios, before the bright lights of LA beckoned.
Such is Kemp’s talent he was recruited by renowned international designer Barbara Barry, where he became known for his luxury residential designs, creating homes for celebrity clients and high net worth individuals throughout North America and Canada.
The role of Creative Director at Candy & Candy brought Martin back to London, where he was instrumental in developing the core brand design values that are now synonymous with the Candy & Candy name.
Private jets and superyacht design briefs followed, as well as luxury homes such as La Belle Epoque and landmark developments such as Chesham Place and One Hyde Park.
Since launching Martin Kemp Design in March 2012, MKD has completed prestigious projects in Mayfair, Chelsea, Monaco and Gstaad. The studio is currently working on a range of luxurious projects which include the interiors for Grade 1* Listed Georgian Townhouse in Mayfair, a boutique residential development in Mayfair comprising seven apartments, as well as a landmark residential development in Mayfair comprising 34 high-end apartments with two penthouses, along with the entrance lobbies, bar, lounge, cinema, conference facilities, spa, pool and gym.
Current international MKD projects include two private jets, two super-yachts, a 54-apartment development in Mumbai, a private apartment in the One57 building overlooking Central Park in New York and a magnificent private polo estate in St Tropez.
MKD are clearly fulfilling their clients’ dreams, and in doing so are creating their vision of being one of the best luxury interior design companies in the world.
