The five-star London Marriott Hotel County Hall is perfectly located to visit some of the Capital’s main attractions including the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament and the London Aquarium.

Sitting next to Westminster Bridge, it’s a very grand and domineering building dating back to 1922. It opened as a hotel in 1998 and was refurbished as part of a multi-million-pound transformation last year. Today, London Marriott Hotel County Hall houses 206 rooms including 12 suites.

We had the privilege of staying in the 70 square metre One Bedroom Executive Suite which is situated at the end of the third floor in a nicely secluded position. It is more like an apartment than a room, and is split into two distinct areas – the lounge, which comes complete with its own dining table, flat-screen TV and coffee making facilities, and the main bedroom. The views are magnificent, especially on a sunny day, and there is plenty of people watching to do on the South Bank and river below.

In addition, there are two toilets – one for you, and one for guests, and the walls are adorned with grey and white vintage street maps of London to allow occupants to get their bearings and learn the geography of the city. The nicely appointed light and spacious bathroom are lined with Floris accessories, towels and robes, and in the adjacent walk-in wardrobe, there is a hair dryer, ironing board and safe.

At the heart of the suite is the uber-comfortable king-sized bed which is dressed with Marriott’s luxury 300-thread count Egyptian cotton linen, a down mattress topper, as well as very soft pillows and an inviting duvet. This is complemented by orange velour seating, which adds a subtle hint of colour to the room.

Late afternoon, pre-dinner canapés are served in the M-Club Lounge for business users, Marriott Rewards Holders, and for those in a suite. We headed up there to sample the complimentary triple cooked chips, green salad and vegetable spring rolls which were sufficient to tantalise the taste buds, but at the same time were not enough to fill ourselves up for our evening meal. The fifth floor is also home to the hotel’s health club, which boasts a very sizeable 6,000 square foot gym, and a large 25-metre pool where guests can put in some serious lengths whilst staying at the property.
