Jill Mansell’s new book – “This Could Change Everything” – is a true gift of joy for everyone who reads it. It could get you through the coldest of winter nights, comfort you if you had a bad day or make a perfect present for someone you care about.
Jill Mansell is an award-winning bestselling author and a true master of the romantic comedy genre. And “This Could Change Everything” is another great example of her work.
She’s got all the tools to pull the reader’s heartstrings and isn’t afraid to use them.
The characters she creates are so endearing they’ll make your heart melt. And her writing is so life-affirming and optimistic it could put a smile on the grumpiest of faces.
I love the way the author can set the scene in just a few sentences without boring the readers to tears with pages and pages of tedious description.
Jill Mansell has the ability to create the right ambience and paint a picture using just a handful of carefully chosen words. One of my personal favourites from this book is: “It was five o’clock, and the Christmas lights were on, illuminating the busy shopping street below, whilst flakes of snow tumbled from an ink-black sky.”
“This Could Change Everything” should be on a must-read list for today’s younger generation. It could help them better understand modern-day life and warn them that the decisions they make today could have an impact on their future.
They could learn about forgiveness, sacrifice, selflessness and, above all, real charity work. The kind of work where people go out there and make a difference using their own time and resources for the good of others.
One of the messages I got from the book is “Life isn’t fair”, but it’s how you handle the blows it deals you that matters. You can’t always control what happens to you, but you can control how you are going to get through it.
Borrowing the words from one of the characters of the book: “… stuff happens to all of us all the time… Every day, we do things that are capable of changing everything, and that’s what makes life exciting.”
At times, an impulsive decision can lead to all kinds of consequences. Sometimes, having faith in people and helping a total stranger can be rewarding and satisfying. And occasionally, when something terrible happens, it doesn’t necessarily spell the end of the world.
It could unexpectedly lead to some exciting and wonderful changes in your life, and things might even work out for the better in the end.
There are plenty of heart-breaking stories in the book. The best advice I could give you: don’t even attempt to read it if your make-up is not waterproof. It’s got no chance! Unless, of course, you are particularly fond of that panda-eyed look, then go for it.
While reading the book, I couldn’t help wondering if the character of Zillah is based on a real person. If she were, I would so love to meet her!
At the respectable old age of eighty-three, this feisty and full-of-life character is adept in modern technology, a guru on social media, still wears high heels and can give many twenty-somethings a run for their money when it comes to style and panache.
I absolutely adored Zillah’s character and can only dream of being a little bit like her if or when I get to that age.
Reading “This Could Change Everything” can be compared to watching a classic black-and-white Hollywood movie like “It’s a Wonderful Life”. It makes you feel all warm and tingly inside and brings out your sensitivity while making you feel happy and full of hope.
Full of humour, which will make you giggle throughout, “This Could Change Everything” is high-paced and light-hearted. The storyline jumps straight from one episode to the next, not allowing the reader to get bored in between.
It’s a feel-good book through and through! The kind that could be read in one breath. And when you get to the end, with tears of joy in your eyes, it will leave you asking for more.
