Earlier today (1:00 pm), from the platform in VialeVenezia, Brescia, the first of 426 historic cars set off for the 1000 Miglia 2022. This year marks the 40th reenactment of the original race and promises to be a breathtaking spectacle.
With the sealing ceremony done and dusted yesterday, during the next four days, entrants in the 1000 Miglia 2022 will drive more than 2,000 kilometres from Brescia, all the way to Rome and back. And on the drive, they will pass through some of Italy’s most beautiful scenery.
Beatrice Saottini, President of 1000 Miglia Srl, said, “The engine is running. We are leaving on this adventure aware of what we have done so and with a lot of adrenaline for what is still to come. We are ready to give and receive lots of affection along the route.”
The first leg of the 1000 Miglia 2022 encompasses three regions: Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna. After leaving Brescia, the cars pass through the beautiful Lake Garda via Desenzano, Salò and Sirmione. Then they head south for the long descent to the Adriatic Sea. From Parco Giardino Sigurtà, they continued to Mantua, where the judges will award the time trial trophy in honour of what would be the 130th anniversary of the birth of Tazio Nuvolari.
Around 19:15, the first of the crews will be arriving in Ferrara. They will stop near the Estense Castle before heading to Teatro Comunale for an in-race dinner. At 20:00, the race will restart for the last section, with the first car expected in Cervia-Milano Marittima at 22:30.
Alberto Piantoni, CEO of 1000 Miglia Srl, said, “The main theme of the 1000 Miglia 2022 is “A Way of Living”, which is the sum of many aspects. The organization, the stakeholders, the partners, but also our history and the values behind 1000 Miglia. Inclusion, the boldness of thought and responsibility to cars and above all to people.”
Amongst the crowd favourites at the 1000 Miglia 2022 will be the Ferrari Tribute, a single competition for post-1958 Maranello-built models. In addition to this are the 1000 Miglia Green, a race for alternative fuel cars, and the 1000 Miglia Experience, which encompasses modern-day supercars.
One of the cars you should be cheering on and lending your support to, perhaps above any other, is the Pink IEO-MOZINO Foundation car which has an all-female crew and is taking part to promote awareness of women’s cancer.
