Steve Huyton Discovers The Manufacture Contemporaine Du Temps Sequential-S110

Manufacture Contemporaine Du Temps Sequential-S110

One of the main pleasures about watch writing is the endless hours of research looking at numerous exquisite timepieces.

the amount of talented watchmakers within the industry is overwhelming and highly stimulating. Being an admirer of contemporary timepieces, I am really impressed with a lot of the new radical designs available on the market. I am excitedly looking forward to seeing all the new creations on show at the Baselworld watch fair in Switzerland this March.

One the companies attending this show is Manufacture Contemporaine Du Temps (or MCT for short). In the general scheme of things they would be considered a relatively young brand as they have only been in existence for 5 years. Nevertheless in a short amount of time they have certainly made a huge impact on the market. Presently the company’s workshops are situated in the picturesque location of Lake Neuchâtel in the heart of Switzerland. A single watchmaker skillfully handcrafts all of their timepieces to ensure the highest possible standards. Every component is sourced exclusively from Swiss suppliers resulting in a range of wonderful timepieces.

Aesthetically the Sequential-S110 has a delightful multi layered façade that gives the watch a three dimensional appearance. The Sequential-S110 is one of the company’s latest offerings and a great example of their work. Dimensionally the timepiece measures 45mm x 45mm x 15.5mm, which should definitely appeal to the masculine market. A watch of this size is designed to make a bold statement without being too obtrusive. Based on watches I have reviewed of a similar size I would envisage it to feel pretty comfortable to wear for most occasions. Primarily this is down to the elegant square case and choice of lightweight Grade 5 titanium used in production.

Aesthetically the Sequential-S110 has a delightful multi layered façade that gives the watch a three dimensional appearance. Time is presented in a completely unconventional manner to differentiate this watch from its competitors. The hours appear in an oversized digital format and the minutes via a rotating jumping sector. Visually these features are stimulating and completely seducing to the eye. The design is the work of Fabrice Gonet who was partly responsible for creating complications for HD3. Overall the architectural quality of this piece is magnificent and the attention to detail first rate.

Beneath the striking exterior lies a highly accomplished hand wound movement, which has been developed by MCT. The Caliber MCT-S1 comprises 81 rubies and oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour (2.5hz). All of the 471 individual components have been meticulously assembled and finished by hand. This mechanical complication is also visible through the sapphire crystal case back. Functionally the Sequential-S110 features sequential hours, minutes and seconds (on the back). The watch also has a power reserve of 40 hours and is water resistant to a depth of 30 metres.

The Sequential-S110 has a hand stitched calf leather strap with double deployment strap.
