Bold, daring and innovative, a Roger Dubuis watch represents a unique mix of unconventional expression of time with high-end watchmaking savior faire married with traditional techniques. According to Olivier Gudin, Managing Director of Roger Dubuis South East Asia & Oceania, the history of Roger Dubuis has always been very creative in terms of the design of its cases and movements and this creativity is kept alive every time this luxury watch brand comes out with a new model.
Case in point – the latest Roger Dubuis which was unveiled at SIHH 2017 – the Excalibur Spider Pirelli Double Flying Tourbillon showcases the collaboration with Pirelli features a unique strap made from the rubber inlays from a certified Pirelli tyre which has won a race in a motor sports event.
Designed for those who enjoy living life in the fast lane, the Excalibur Spider Pirelli Double Flying Tourbillon is both rugged and reliable with its black DLC Titanium skeleton case with vulcanised blue rubber making a visual impact.
Apart from the rubber strap from a Pirelli tyre, Gudin says this year, Roger Dubuis will launch a new material which has never been used before in watchmaking. Called Cobalt Chrome, this alloy adds a brightness and shine to the watches like platinum yet it is highly resistant, the material is so dense, even though it is scratched, it cannot be seen. Incorporated in the Excalibur Quatuor Cobalt MicroMelt, this exceptional watch is limited to only eight pieces worldwide. Further, Gudin says another first for the company is the use carbon in the movement.
“All the bridges and plates are made from carbon,” says Gudin adding that innovation is Roger Dubuis’ core DNA. “Using unconventional materials in our watches has a purpose,” he states adding that carbon being much lighter than brass which is the usual material of choice, will result in a 30 per cent of power reserve. “You will create an additional 30-hours of power reserve just by being lighter.”
