Maserati Ghibli Diesel GranLusso Test Drive and Review 5

The Ghibli GranLusso is heavier and larger than I’d expected, and parking her takes some practice. Probably worried about anyone coming too close! But visibility is excellent and I enjoy using the surround cameras for parking. The camera automatically activates when I select reverse and shows up on the high-res display, while visual and aural alerts warn me when anyone is walking in my blind zone. Gridlines are a useful steer too. The Ghibli actually has four cameras: two under the side mirrors, as well as forward and rear-looking cameras, providing an excellent 360-degree view.

Maserati Ghibli Diesel GranLusso Safety Features
As you’d imagine with a car of the Ghibli’s calibre, Maserati has installed a raft of useful driver assist and safety features. Stability control, Advanced Driver Assist, Highway Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, and Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot assist and Traffic Sign recognition to name just seven. The advanced brake assist feature applies further brake power if it deems the driver’s foot is too ‘loosy goosy’. Add to that autonomous emergency braking and you have a car that takes personal safety very seriously.

I especially like the Rear Cross Path function for reversing out of parking spaces where rear visibility is impaired. Thanks to sensors located either side of the bumper, I was alerted of a child moving towards my car.

The lights are also very safety conscious. The full LED Matrix system includes a front camera that supports the Matrix-adaptive High Beam. This creates light ‘tunnels’ by deactivating individual LEDs in the relevant zone, ‘cutting out’ the area around the vehicles and allowing Ghibli drivers to keep high beam on, without dazzling oncoming drivers.

Why Buy A Maserati Ghibli Diesel GranLusso?
Maserati has never been ubiquitous in the same way as its main rivals BMW or Mercedes. You choose to drive a Maserati because you want to stand out. You love Italian design and craftsmanship – and you love an engine that performs as well as it sounds. A car that you can engage with while driving, alongside all the advanced tech and safety features. A luxury sports sedan that has enough oomph to put a grin on your face along a motorway, and is equally responsive around town, or flying down country roads with the wind in your hair.

The Maserati Ghibli Diesel GranLusso not only symbolises freedom and refinement, it delivers both in one sexy package. What more could you want in a luxury sedan?
