Viktoria Modesta Becomes The Bionic Showgirl at Crazy Horse Paris

Viktoria Modesta is the New Bionic Showgirl at Crazy Horse Paris

Iconic Parisian cabaret, Crazy Horse Paris, is famous for its avant-garde and innovative shows featuring the likes of Dita Von Teese to Beyoncé. This summer, a new artistic talent makes her debut appearance on the cabaret stage at 12 Avenue George V: bionic performance star, singer and songwriter Viktoria Modesta.

Challenging female stereotypes in her empowering performance, Viktoria has always had an unconventional approach to life. Moving from Russia to London at the age of 12, she became a model and embraced the city’s love of fashion and subculture. For health reasons in her twenties she made the brave decision to have her withered leg amputated below the knee. This transformation gave her freedom of movement and liberated Viktoria’s latent creativity, allowing her to fulfil her passion for performance and develop an intriguing stage alter ego.

From solo concerts and fashion week shows to the London Paralympics, Viktoria literally transforms the human body into art, combining bionic prosthetics, high-tech fashion and digital media. Viktoria’s powerful stage presence attracted the attention of Andrée Deissenberg, Chief Creative Director of Crazy Horse:

“I was fascinated by Viktoria’s incredible determination and her creative power. The way she has taken control of her own destiny and transformed her life into a total artistic performance is genuinely astounding. Viktoria is an inspiration. That’s why I asked her to be our next guest star.”

Expect a wild and crazy alternative perspective of womanhood, sensuality and beauty alongside traditional performance art as Viktoria performs solo and with the resident Crazy Horse Paris dancers. She turns her ‘disadvantage’ into a strength and challenges the traditional roles of image and feminity via a series of tableaux inspired by her futuristic world. Viktoria’s futuristic approach to the concept of the body as art led her to be appointed as a Director’s Fellow of MIT Media Lab and a European Young Leader for 2019.

“When I was living in London, I came to see the Crazy Horse Paris show several times,” she says. “It really spoke to my passion of creating a hyper-reality full of magic. This is a journey where we reimagine an outdated storyline in the most innovative and entertaining way.”
