A Sterling Event – Ong Chin Huat attends Comyns’ launch of the Padma Collection

Comyns unveiled the new 925 Sterling Silver Padma Collection to the media at an elegant and refined setting which was held at Neo Tamarind on Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.

Using the lotus plant as a source of inspiration, the 925 Sterling Silver Padma Collection is created via a process that involves the use of spun silver sheets and moulds. The collection consists of a set of four bowls in different sizes that can be stacked together or presented individually.

Expert florists demonstrated how one can beautify a space using simple floral arrangement techniques with the Padma bowls. A floral arrangement workshop was also conducted after that and the media enjoyed the opportunity to compose and bring home their very own floral arrangement.

Since time immemorial, flowers have been known to have deep symbolic meaning and are often gifted to express different emotions, most commonly love, beauty, luck and gratitude.

The petals of the lotus – so beautiful, perfect and delicate – were the inspiration for the latest addition to Comyn’s distinguished craftsmanship, the Padma Collection. To anyone who has ever laid eyes on the exquisite floating lotus plant, they may agree that the lotus flower always appears so genuinely pure against the backdrop of a pool of water.

Because of this, the lotus flower has been constantly associated with different beliefs and philosophy. The lotus flower closes up at night and sinks underwater and in the morning, it re-emerges and blooms beautifully again. It is because of this that ancient Egyptian scholars believed that the lotus is the symbol of the sun and rebirth.

Using the lotus plant as a source of inspiration, Comyns created a dazzling and contemporary take of the sacred lotus flower, Padma. The 925 Sterling Silver Padma Collection is created via a process that involves the use of spun silver sheets and moulds. The petals of the bowls are meticulously refined using a technique called “chasing”, whereby the process involves forming and crafting the shapes using special “chasing” tools without removing any precious silver. Demonstrating the talented skills of Comyns’ silversmiths, the beautiful Padma bowls resemble an exuberant interpretation of the lotus flower in lustrous silver.

The stunning Padma Collection consists of a set of four bowls in different sizes that can be stacked together to create a beautiful centrepiece which will sit magnificently on any surface, be it in the dining room or as a decorative ornament in the living hall. For the ladies who love to throw dinner parties, the bowls can also be bought separately to create individual serving bowls that will look beautiful on the dinner table.

Created with utmost care and passion, the Padma Collection is a symbol of uniqueness and individual beauty. Together, they are an artistic creation that has an everlasting appeal. Individually, they “bloom” elegantly on the table or mantelpiece, becoming heirloom pieces that can be passed down from generation to generation.

The new Padma Collection is available as a set of four bowls or sold individually in varying widths of 4, 5, 7 or 8 inches at Comyns boutiques in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Bangsar Shopping Centre, The Gardens Mall, Suria KLCC, the Head Office Gallery at the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre and selected Royal Selangor stores. The Padma Collection retails from RM6,500 onwards.
