Alice In Wonderland Afternoon Tea Review At St James’ Court

Alice In Wonderland Afternoon Tea Review At St James' Court

The ‘Afternoon Tea in Wonderland’ – set in the opulent St James’ Court a Taj Hotel – will have you grinning like the Cheshire Cat. Here’s why…

London has an ever-growing number of ‘themed’ afternoon teas, though the ‘Afternoon Tea in Wonderland’ has to be one of the capital’s kookiest.

Set in luxe hotel St James’ Court, the Alice-inspired tea party includes a colourful selection of sweet and savoury treats served in the sublime and cosy Kona lounge.

The tea party celebrates the Lewis Carroll classic through brightly coloured, mismatched china, Wonderland-inspired props and a creative menu that won’t fail to put a smile on your face (like the Cheshire Cat himself).

After you’ve picked your tea (from the vast selection of greens, blacks, chai and caffeine-free blends) everything’s served at once, so you’re free to settle in for the afternoon and dig into the generously-sized tea at your own pace.

There’s a hearty serving of finger sandwiches (the beetroot bread was amazing!) – though the focus is on the sweet stuff.

Highlights included the bubblegum-flavoured pocket watch macaroons decorated in glitter and the wonderfully tart ‘Queen of Hearts’ mango pastries.

The ‘Drink Me’ strawberry smoothies were a lovely touch, and we were even served a jam and coconut cake on the side – so you’ll be taking a doggy bag home.

The staff are attentive, without being overbearing and won’t have you rushing out the door when your slot’s up. Plus, the hotel is in a great location; there’s nearby Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey for a stroll after tea.

The hotel itself is elegant and peaceful – we didn’t spot any families – and the afternoon tea is quite sophisticated, so it’s best suited for dates, girly catch-ups or shopping pitstops.

The ‘Afternoon Tea in Wonderland’ is one of the best-dressed, most photo-worthy teas I’ve enjoyed in the capital. Next time you’re in need of an adventure, hop down your nearest rabbit hole (aka the underground to Victoria station) and tuck into an Alice-inspired tea.

Afternoon Tea in Wonderland – How & Where?

The ‘Afternoon Tea in Wonderland’ costs £45 per person. Afternoon tea is served every day at the hotel’s Kona restaurant and St. James’ Courtyard from 12:00 – 17:30.
