What is it?
From the team behind the Third Space luxury gyms comes the newly opened Another_Space in Covent Garden. This good-looking gym joins the line-up of luxury boutique gyms that have opened in the past couple of years. Think fewer members, smaller class sizes, celebrity trainers and exuberant extras. The classes work on a pay-as-you-go basis so you won’t be tied into a membership.

We loved the HIIT 45 workout at Another_Space (there’s also cycling and yoga), which incorporates fat-burning movements with boxing work. And the best part is, you’ll continue burning calories long after you’ve finished.

Power Pilates for Men, PilatesSquared

Power Pilates for Men, PilatesSquared

What is it?
Pilates comes with a bounty of benefits; lowered stress levels, boosted brain power, better mobility, improved core strength…the list is endless.

Often though, we’re lead to believe that Pilates is a female sport which simply is not the case. So to help dispel that misconception, PilatesSquared in Chelsea is launching a Power Pilates hour designed especially for guys.

The class uses a reformer machine and incorporates military-style exercises designed to target male muscles. After all, one of the first groups of people to practice Pilates were male army recruits.

Class sizes are small (just 3 people per class), so expect maximum attention from your trainer. You can also go it alone with a personal trainer.Pilates Squared owner, Caron Bosler, says: “I have been teaching Pilates for 20 years and in the past few months I have noticed a huge upswing in men looking to try Pilates in order to improve their performance, overall core strength and prevent injury. Core Collective, Weighted Yoga and Sculpt

Core Collective, Weighted Yoga and Sculpt

What is it?
In Holland Park, boutique studio Core Collective (core-collective.co.uk) has been drawing regular fashionista and celebrity crowds since it first opened in 2015. If you’re passionate about fitness, this is the place to be seen.

Like London’s other boutique gyms, classes are charged by the session and there is an oh-so-chic lounge area and seriously tasty health café to boot.

Core Collective first shook up the scene with three signature classes. One of which – Accelerate – is arguably the best spin class around, promising to put your fitness levels to the test. I’m a keen indoor ‘cycler’ and each session sees me pushing past my limits.

Since then, Core has added a selection of other sessions, the most recent being Sculpt and Weighted Yoga.

Sculpt classes team fast-paced ballet with contemporary dance moves to torch calories and dramatically improve flexibility. Weighted yoga is a new dumbbell-based workout that gives those well-known moves a whole new edge and muscle-sculpting power.

How and where?
Core Collective is located at 45 Phillimore Walk, Holland Park, London, W8 7RZ. Individual classes cost £28 a session or £320 for 16 sessions.
