BA's First Cabin Meal Kits Bring Luxury In-flight Dining into Your Home

Those missing the experience of luxury air travel are in for a treat! British Airways is now allowing Britain’s peoples to bring the first-class dining experience into their homes courtesy of their brand new First Cabin Meal Kits.

As I sit at my desk writing this article, I received notification via an email informing me that it’s been 368.5 days since the first lockdown was introduced here in the UK. In these 300+ days, international travel (for most) has taken a backseat resulting in almost zero opportunity to tuck into a first-class in-flight meal.

If you, like me, are missing the excitement of discovering what’s on an in-flight luxury meal menu, worry no more. British Airways are making it simple for you to remind your tastebuds of what they’ve missed with their brand new First Cabin Meal Kits, which are designed to replicate their First Cabin dining experience.

With many first-class, highly-lauded restaurants now providing at home fine dining kits, it makes perfect sense for British Airways to adopt the same approach; the first question that springs to mind is why it took them so long to do it?

Introducing a new service into a giant corporation is a challenging task. It’s akin to trying to turn the direction of a massive oil tanker at short notice, which probably explains why BA is arriving a little late to the party.

To enable British Airways to get the First Cabin luxury meal kit’s into people homes, they’re working in conjunction with Feast Box and their premium catering partner, DO & CO.

Hamish McVey, Head of Brands and Marketing at British Airways said: “We hope that this exclusive First experience will allow our customers who are missing flying to enjoy an amazing dining experience at home. British Airways, Feast Box and DO & CO take huge pride in offering top quality international cuisine, and although it might appear a little different being delivered to a customer’s door rather than at 38,000 feet, we hope it will be just as exciting.”

About the British Airways First Cabin Meal Kits
The First Cabin Meal Kits have been designed to mirror British Airways’ First cabin dining experience.

Each First Cabin Meal Kit comprises a four-course menu with customers choosing from meat and fish or vegetarian options. Customers receive all the requisite ingredients as used in the First cabin; it is down to them to cook the meal, which is made simpler with the inclusion of an information card and recipe sheet, which appropriately is provided in the form of a passport.

Aside from the price, what you really want to know is what’s inside the British Airways First Cabin Meal Kits? Below is a sample menu that should give you a good idea of what to expect:

  • Loch Fyne smoked salmon timbale with honey mustard dressing.
  • Slow-cooked British beef cheeks with Jalapeno potato gratin, tender stem broccoli and chimichurri
  • Cheese selection of Caws Golden cenarth, Snowdonia Black Bomber Cheddar, Harrogate blue, and Kidderton ash goats cheese with chutney
  • Dark chocolate & orange liqueur bread & butter pudding with vanilla sauce

Jyoti Patel, Feast Box CEO and Founder said, “Food is a wonderful way to explore the world and helps to shape our fondest memories. Offering people the chance to travel the world through food is at the core of everything we do, so working with British Airways on this First experience has helped to bring Feast Box to life in a very special way.”

Robert Williams, DO & CO UK Managing Director said: “At DO & CO we pride ourselves on offering outstanding and innovative dining experiences to our customers around the world. Working on this First dining experience has been a fun way to bring some of what we usually do in the skies with British Airways into people’s homes and we look forward to them enjoying it. We’ve ensured that dishes such as our slow-cooked 48-hour beef cheeks in a port wine jus are easy to assemble and of course delicious to enjoy.”

British Airways First Cabin Meal Kits packaging is recylable

In-line with current day needs, the First Cabin Meal Kit packaging is made from recyclable, compostable or biodegradable materials. Another nice touch is where possible, the First Cabin Meal Kit’s ingredients are sourced from the UK and Irland. This includes the beef cheeks, which are from UK heritage breeds and the smoked salmon, sourced from Loch Fyne in Scotland.

Feast Box will also be gifting anyone embarking on the British Airways First dining experience a complimentary box from their regular internationally inspired menu. Customers will also receive a voucher for 10% off a British Airways flight.
