Every year the Principality hosts a special auction to benefit research for Duchenne muscular dystrophy called Only Watch, this year will see the fifth edition of the world’s greatest charity watch auction. The proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophy.
Under the patronage of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, 40 of the world’s finest watch manufacturers are selected and invited to donate a unique time piece to help in raising funds to help fight this degenerative neuromuscular disease affecting 1 in 3,500 boys, therefore 250,000 children, adolescents, and young adults around the world.

For this years auction, Backes & Strauss has created specifically for the Only Watch auction, a very special and unique time piece called the Victoria Princess Red Heart, as part of the Victoria Princess watch collection.

About the Victoria Princess Red Heart watch
The Victoria Princess Red Heart is based upon a 19th Century brooch, drawn from the magnificent Backes & Strauss archives. The brooch’s exquisite design is an amalgam of two opulent diamond encrusted and linked hearts. It is the linked hearts that become (aside from the gemstones) the main focal point of the time piece, these have been repeated to form a circle to symbolise life, love and eternal friendship.
The Victoria Princess Red Heart watch has a liberal sprinkling of perfectly formed rubies accentuating the hearts upon the bracelet and highlighting the watch dial, these are accompanied by the world renowned Backes & Strauss’ trademark ‘ideal cut’ diamonds. The rubies are synonymous with love and passion making them the ideal choice for the time piece. Each jewel was carefully selected to ensure that the Victoria Princess Red Heart watch would be one of the true showpiece additions to the Only Watch auction.
For over two centuries Backes & Strauss have produced Ideal Cut diamonds, designed with 57 precisely placed facets to create maximum fire and sparkle. Of all their diamonds, the Hearts and Arrows are the most brilliant and magnificent Ideal Cut diamonds. Each of the diamonds at Backes & Strauss is a D, E or F colour and internally flawless with only a very, very slight inclusion.
