Storied and stylish Pest-Buda

The low-down
Here’s another boutique hotel from the Zsidai family but this one’s totally different in look and feel. Pest-Buda is set in one of the area’s oldest buildings, dating back to 1696. The décor celebrates its storied past, rustic and chic with all the luxuries a traveller could want.

Rooms and suites
There are 10 spacious rooms though the Atelier Suites are where it’s at. Up in the attic, the suite feels like an apartment and is where you’ll want to base yourself for a few days. The highlight is the gorgeous private terrace with the bell tower of Mathias Church in the background. Décor blends industrial style with luxurious features. There’s oak flooring, original beams and a bathroom carved from limestone. Original artwork hangs from the walls and quirky extras like a fluorescent red mini Smeg fridge and a vintage radio add buckets of character. You’ll feel right at home with a two-sided LCD TV, luxury L’Occitane toiletries, speedy Wi-Fi, a Nespresso machine, a rainforest shower and a roll top bath. It’s worth mentioning that the suite is reached by a winding staircase. The hotel can’t install a lift since the building is listed.

Dining
The restaurant looks and feels like a lovely French bistro. It serves home-cooked Hungarian classics including specialty pizzas. Ingredients are top-notch and the drinks menu spans Hungarian wines, famous Palinka shots and the usual favourites.

Things to do
Pest-Buda is situated in the Castle District and is steps away from the incredible Matthias Church. It’s also just around the corner from Baltazár.
