Blueair's DustMagnet™ Air Purifier Could Change Cleaning as We Know It

Swedish air purification expert Blueair has launched a new air purifier designed to catch airborne dust before it settles on floors and surfaces. Using a raft of advanced technologies, the DustMagnet™ is said to deliver even more clean air in a slick Scandinavian design that blends into the home like other pieces of furniture.

Are we at the end of cleaning as we know it? Well, if the Swedish company Blueair can do what it purports with their DustMagnet™, we may very well be. The company’s latest air purifier claims to catch airborne dust using some rather fancy technology before it gets the chance to settle, which should thrill those who are less than enthusiastic about daily cleaning chores.

Seven out of 10 people in China, India, South Korea, the U.K. and the U.S. worry about dust as the primary indoor air pollutant in their homes, and in India, South Korea and the U.K., dust is also the number one concern in schools and workplaces.[1]

“Around 150 million people around the world are allergic to dust, so it’s unsurprising it tops the list of concerns for home and office air quality across the globe,” says Alexander Provins, Director EMEA, Blueair.

“The DustMagnet™ provides a solution to high levels of dust in the home by using unique technology to remove dust before it settles on surfaces, and its stylish tabletop design means it will blend seamlessly with your décor.”

Breathing in fine dust or harmful PM2.5 (fine particulate matter) can penetrate deep into the lungs and cause respiratory difficulties, heart and lung problems, and a host of other diseases. For this reason, it’s crucial to understand how you can reduce the amount of dust in the home and breathe the cleanest air possible.

Designed for a life with less cleaning
Dust can quickly accumulate on surfaces, regardless of how often you clean. Blueair’s DustMagnet™ technology is designed to attract airborne dust particles like a magnet before it settles on floors and surfaces. Thanks to a powerful airflow in combination with two positively charged pre-filters, airborne dust is captured and removed, resulting in less time spent dusting and vacuuming.

It’s not only dust that the DustMagnet™ can handle. It’s also a dab hand when it comes to bacteria and viruses, removing 99.97% of allergens, pollen, mould, pet dander and microplastics as small as 0.1 microns from the air thanks to Blueair’s HEPASilent™ technology. The activated carbon in the filter also removes unpleasant household odours and smoke.

Thanks to a combination of electrostatic and mechanical filtration, Blueair’s unique HEPASilent™ filtration technology can use less dense filters than traditional air purifiers. Therefore the DustMagnet™ can produce more clean air at less air pressure, meaning whisper-silent operation and less energy use than a light bulb.

The DustMagnet™ is available in two sizes. The 5240i has been independently verified to clean rooms between 20m² and 48m² in size[2]. While the DustMagnet™ 5440i is designed for rooms between 33m² and 79m² in size.[3]

For a faster clean, the DustMagnet™ can be used in smaller rooms, but Blueair always recommends using an air purifier based on 4.8 air changes every hour to ensure continuously clean air in your room.

Designed to blend into the home
“Consumers have been telling us that they don’t want an air purifier that looks like a machine. This is why we combined function and aesthetics when designing DustMagnet™ and created an air purifier that looks like a piece of furniture,” explains Jacob Gunnefur, Design Lead at Blueair.

“DustMagnet™ can be used as a bedside table or prominently placed as a signature piece in your living room. The most important thing is that people feel they no longer have to hide their air purifier in a corner.”

With a convenient top surface that doubles as a side table, the DustMagnet™ air purifier is designed to blend into the home like a great looking piece of Scandinavian furniture. There is no need to hide your air purifier behind the sofa, and you can instead place it prominently in the room where it will be most effective.

Smart connected features for modern living
With smart connected features and geofencing technology, the DustMagnet™ ensures a clean home wherever you are. The Auto mode function with a smart sensor monitors real-time air quality conditions and auto-adjusts to optimise cleaning performance. Thanks to the “Welcome Home” feature in the Blueair app, the DustMagnet™ will enter into standby mode when you leave the house and turn back on as you approach home, ensuring dust-free air when you arrive.

Using its Night mode, DustMagnet™ will clean the air at low fan speed with dimmed LED lights so you can enjoy a great night sleep. An intuitive user interface with a 5-step colour air quality indicator quickly provides real-time information about the air quality in your home and alerts you when it is time to change the filter.

By using compatible voice services such as Amazon Alexa and Google Home, you can control DustMagnet™ with voice instructions. Alternatively, there is the option of the Blueair app, which can be used to control and track its cleaning performance on your phone.

Designed in Sweden
Like all Blueair air purifiers, DustMagnet™ is designed in Sweden to ensure the highest quality, safety and sustainability. The pre-filter, which catches larger particles to extend the life of the main filter, can be easily cleaned using a dust cloth or with a soft brush. For best performance, Blueair recommends cleaning the pre-filter on a weekly basis.
