Antonio Sanzone, (29) joins as Head Chef after four years in the same role at Caffe Caldesi

Head Chef, Antonio Sanzone, has created a seasonal and modern European menu with strong references to his Italian roots. Born in the heel of Italy’s boot in the Puglia region of South-East Italy, Antonio began cooking with local produce at the age of 13 first taught by his dad, a chef, and Antonio’s greatest source of inspiration.

Situated on the banks of the River Thames, at the foot of the Wandsworth Riverside Quarter jetty, View 94 boasts stunning panoramic views over the river stretching from Putney Bridge in the west along to Wandsworth Bridge in the east. Diners can sail in from central London on the Thames Clipper disembarking on the jetty just a few paces from the restaurant.

It starts when you walk in the door with elegant service, crisp, fresh interiors, and an almost entirely organic/biodynamic wine list selected by Maitre D’, Cristian Morini. And only then comes the food. My modern European cooking has strong references to my southern Italian roots and many of the dishes tell a story.”

“Take for example my signature polenta soufflé, the accompanying spicy broccoli is very Puglian but the hearty polenta crumb evokes the north of Italy and Modena, where I first met my wife. Next, my beef tartar is flavoured only with cep dust, there’s no salt or pepper, ceps are loved by Italians all over and this dish is a little homage to them. We make everything in our kitchen, from the bread, to the ice-creams which tend to be almost 90% fruit pulp with minimal amounts of sugar syrup.”

Antonio uses various modern techniques both to enhance his dishes and to entertain. For example, guests will find their salmon smoked right before them at the table.

Elegant crockery, cutlery and glassware are all carefully selected by Antonio with each dish in mind.

In and around View 94
Upstairs in the restaurant, natural stone, grey and light wood tones create a calm, relaxed feel. Every table has a view, through the wrap-around windows, onto the Thames with its houseboats and rowers and leafy Hurlingham Park on the opposite riverbank.

Downstairs in the Lounge Bar the unrivalled river views continue through floor to ceiling glass doors that open in concertina in warm weather allowing guests to enter directly from the towpath. A smart bar, lined with white leather high chairs, includes an eclectic choice of beers, cocktails and whiskies. The adjoining lounge area, complete with leather banquettes and low chairs is configured for convivial brunches, afternoon teas and early evening ‘aperitivi’ from Antonio’s innovative menus.
