We all want to make our mum feel special on Mothers Day, and one way is by letting her celebrate with a tasty tipple. If she’s a fan of gin, you might consider getting her a bottle of Cotton Gin from Otterbeck Distillery. Read on to discover why we feel she’d love it!

The premium small-batch gin is a homage to the beautiful surroundings and countryside of the Yorkshire Dales. It is now available with two Gin Glasses, perfect for a gift. Cotton makes for a refreshing and smooth gin and a tonic aperitif before dinner.

The finest botanicals are sourced for the Cotton Gin, including Yorkshire Watercress, English Coriander, hand-foraged local spruce, rowan berries, nettle leaves mint. These make for a fragrant and herbaceous gin. Cotton Gin will instantly transport you to a sunny English garden and rolling green meadows.

The name ‘Cotton’ comes from the magnificent building in which Otterbeck Distillery is located. It is built on the site of an 18thcentury, five-story cotton and silk mill. This sits alongside the Otterburn Beck, a tributary of the River Aire.

A hand-engineered 450-litre copper pot still was a significant investment for the distillery. They named it ‘Eliza’ after the original Cotton Mill-owner’s wife.

Cotton Gin has received plaudits from the industry, winning gold at the Spirits Business Gin Masters, despite only being launched in July 2020 in the UK’s most challenging circumstances. Distilling in small batches, the company has passion and patience. The result of this is an exceptionally clean-tasting but complex Gin.

Otterbeck recommends Cotton Gin served as a double shot mixed with 150 ml of premium Indian tonic water, a spring of rosemary finished off by a ribbon of lemon peel. To enjoy the creamy, smooth, deep and complex liquid fully, it’s superb just over some ice.

A recommendation is the Cotton Martini, with dry vermouth and a dash of orange bitters with a twist of lemon peel to garnish.

I got the whole family to try the Cotton Gin as I didn’t want my mother drinking the entire bottle in one go! We tried it neat, and the floral aromas shone through with slight hints of the herbaceous. Everyone enjoyed the creamy taste coupled with its citrus notes. More importantly, Mum enjoyed it, and that, for me, is one reason why it should be on your list of things to make Mothers Day extra special.
