Well rested on the aforementioned bed and after tucking into a light breakfast, it was time to explore the newly opened Wellness Suite of the Thermae Bath Spa just across the road. Consisting of a Roman and Georgian Steam Room, Infrared Sauna, Ice Chamber, Celestial Relaxation Room and Chromotherapy Showers, it’s a real treat for the senses. Again like the Bath House Circuit of the Spa Village, guests here can take a natural journey through the seven sensory experiences.
After the Experience Showers with overhead showers and side jets, while inhaling an invigorating lemongrass scent, the Infrared Sauna warmed the body from the core outwards. With its gentle heat, it allowed my body to get used to the temperature, unlike a traditional sauna. The sandalwood fragrance with warm lime undertones helped relax me that little more.
The Roman Steam room heated to 45 degrees literally transported me to a bygone era with its imposing mosaic of Sulis Minerva and stone lion heads lining the walls. The lavender scented steam promoted that sleepy feeling I associate with this fragrance so I headed to the Georgian Steam Room to awake myself and admire the Georgian garden views on the wall while inhaling the tea-rose and jasmine steam and the relaxing birdsong audio.
The peppermint-scented Ice Chamber is a welcome break from all that heat not to mention invigorating for the body – but not for too long. The tranquil Celestial Relaxation Room is incredibly inviting where it’s so easy to fall asleep on the heated slab bed. But a cold shower in the Chromotherapy Showers was enough to wake me up again. Just as well because the spectacular views of Bath and surrounding hills from the warm waters of the open-air roof-top pool are simply divine.
The great spas of the world have always made people feel good and Bath is no exception. After spending two days here, I walked away feeling that the art of feeling good really doesn’t get better than this.
