The Langham, Boston and Boston Ballet to Present ‘A New American Classic’

The Langham, Boston and Boston Ballet to Present 'A New American Classic'

Two enduring Boston icons—The Langham, Boston and Boston Ballet—come together in perfect harmony this winter in a spectacular celebration of their mutual love of the arts and the city.

This unique collaboration has the internationally-renowned dance company debut an exclusive new piece of choreography at The Langham, Boston in an artistic reinterpretation of “A New American Classic”, captured in a spellbinding short film.

“As a brand, The Langham is known for its commitment to craftsmanship and arts. Here in Boston, we pride ourselves on being deeply entwined with the arts community,” said Michele Grosso, managing director of The Langham, Boston. “To us, there is no better partner to help us re-introduce The Langham to the Boston community than Boston Ballet, an organization renowned for their commitment to the city as well as their unrivalled grace, elegance and creativity.”

The film, “A New American Classic”, features members of Boston Ballet, including soloist Chyrstyn Fentroy, dancing to an ensemble created especially for the film by choreographer, Paulo Arrais, who is also a principal dancer in the company. Directed by Emmy-award winner cinematographer Larkin Donley and Alex Delgado who created The Langham’s last brand campaign, it includes scenes shot throughout the hotel, depicting a perfect day spent celebrating at The Langham.

Highlights include dance sequences shot in front of The Langham’s distinctive awning; in The Fed; in GRANA, The Langham’s signature restaurant; and the Wyeth Room, one of the hotel’s most historic spaces and the setting for the ultimate party, attended by Fentroy and the rest of the dancers in the film. The other cast members along with Chrystyn Fentroy are Seo Hye Han, Patrick Yocum, Tigran Mkrtchyan, Paul Craig, Ao Wang, Irlan Silva, Louise Hautefeuille, and Chisako Oga.

“Collaborating on a project with The Langham was such a special journey,” said Arrais. “It was remarkable to merge our worlds and learn from one another. As I was brainstorming and creating the movement for this project, I was always thinking of the connection between the reopening of The Langham, Boston and Boston Ballet’s new virtual presence and return to the stage. This renaissance after the struggle is our ‘New American Classic.”

“The Langham is strongly committed to the arts, craftsmanship, local culture and through this beautiful journey and successful collaboration we have had with Boston Ballet, the brand is looking forward to similar partnerships in other Langham destinations,” added Grosso.

This partnership also celebrates the reopening of The Langham, Boston, which began welcoming guests in June following an extensive two-year, multi-million dollar renovation.

The Langham, Boston is housed in a historic landmark building that was originally opened in 1922 as the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, making it the ideal film set. The renovated New England inspired interiors, created by Richmond International, feature a luxurious new lobby, decorated in jewel tones, with a cosy fireplace, ample seating, and a high-design concierge area and check-in desk; and completely redesigned guest rooms and suites with brand new marble-clad bathrooms.

Reinforcing The Langham’s love for the arts, the hotel boasts a carefully curated art collection comprising more than 60 specially commissioned pieces, as well as subtle nods to the building’s grand banking history.
