Enjoy Fun, Spectacle and Culture at Lithuania's 2025 Summer Festivals

Lithuania is emerging as one of Europe’s most exciting cultural destinations. For summer 2025, the country has compiled a vibrant festival calendar that offers travellers the opportunity to experience the country’s culture, unwind, let their hair down, and have a great time.

Lithuania is a country that has been climbing steadily up travellers’ must-visit lists. This is thanks in no small part to numerous recent accolades, including 32 restaurants getting listed in the 2024 Michelin Guide, with four awarded a coveted Michelin star.

In addition, Lonely Planet put Lithuania as the second-best travel destination in the world, with the biggest feather in its cap being named the best place to visit in Europe.

Summer presents an ideal opportunity for UK visitors to discover Lithuania’s distinctive blend of ancient traditions and modern celebrations. From folk-based rituals to world-class concerts – and even an offbeat Corgi race – Lithuania’s summer festival season offers a lively and engaging insight into the country’s rich cultural heritage, with something to captivate visitors of all ages and interests.

Nativity of John the Baptist (Joninės), 23 June
As the last pagan nation in Europe, Lithuania maintains vibrant ancient traditions, with Joninės (Midsummer Festival) serving as a prime example. While similar festivities exist in the UK, the Lithuanian version provides a uniquely immersive cultural experience.

The most spectacular celebration takes place in Kernavė, the country’s former medieval capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As night falls, bonfires illuminate the ancient hill fort mounds while traditional folk songs and dances create a captivating atmosphere.

Steeped in folklore, the festival features customs such as young women floating flower wreaths down rivers in search of romantic prospects and the fabled search for the mythical fern flower (paparčio žiedas), said to bloom only on this night and bring life-changing fortune.

Festival “As Young As Vilnius”, 25 July
Lithuania’s capital celebrates in style during its annual festival honouring its patron saint, St. Christopher. Vingis Park, one of Vilnius’s largest green spaces, will turn into a vibrant concert venue drawing tens of thousands of visitors.

Recent editions have included performances by international artists such as Rita Ora, Bastille, and Clean Bandit, highlighting how this 700-year-old city retains a youthful energy. The free concert offers UK visitors the chance to enjoy Lithuanian hospitality alongside world-class entertainment.

Sea Festival, 25–27 July
Since 1934, Klaipėda – Lithuania’s principal harbour city – has hosted the country’s largest summer celebration, attracting over half a million visitors annually.

This three-day maritime festival features more than 100 events, including colourful parades, street performances, and bustling fairs. The celebration honours Lithuania’s maritime heritage and offers travellers an engaging introduction to Baltic coastal culture.

International Country Music Festival “Visagino Country”, 22–23 August
With country music enjoying a global revival in 2025, visitors can experience its Baltic twist at the International Country Music Festival in Visaginas – a town established in 1975 to house workers of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant. Today, it is one of Lithuania’s most diverse communities, home to residents from over 40 nationalities.

Founded in 1991, shortly after Lithuania regained independence, the festival has grown into one of the Baltic region’s leading country music events. Set in a scenic, open-air venue by Lake Visaginas and surrounded by pine forests, the festival features international performers, artisan markets, and Western-themed activities for all ages, offering a unique way to enjoy a genre that is currently resonating worldwide.

Corgi Race, 23–24 August
One of Lithuania’s most delightfully whimsical summer events, the annual Corgi Race turns Vilnius’ Vingis Park into a festival of short legs, floppy ears, and serious enthusiasm.

What began as a light-hearted gathering has grown into a full-blown celebration of creativity and canine charm, attracting participants and spectators from across Europe.

Last year’s event featured over 100 corgis from five countries and nearly 7,000 spectators.

The two-day programme includes a 25-metre sprint, a Mightiest Voice contest, and a fiercely competitive costume competition.

On the second day, the fun continues at Vilnius Town Hall Square with the World Corgi Meetup, drawing enthusiasts from the USA, Ireland, Poland, and beyond – a standout experience for visitors with a soft spot for the breed’s royal pedigree.
