Artist Simon Claridge has created London’s most stylish parking spaces, transforming a row of ‘blank canvas’ under-ground parking bays near world famous shopping destination Oxford Street, into a celebration of fashion icons.
The artwork is an elaborate montage of Claridge’s signature portraits of iconic individuals from the past six decades who are recognised for their enduring style. The famous faces include Amy Winehouse, Kate Moss, Marylin Monroe, James Dean and David Bowie.
The installation, in collaboration with Alfa Romeo, can be seen from the 22/08 for a short time only at Q-Park’s Oxford Street car park (Cavendish Square, W1G 0PN), frequented by thousands of shoppers each week and located just minutes from London’s fashion epicentre.
Anyone who parks in the stylish spaces during the installation will also receive a 50% discount on their parking charge from Q Parks.
Celebrity patrons of Simon Claridge’s previous works include Kate Moss, who features in the artwork, and stylist and designer Rachel Zoe.
The artwork’s colour scheme of black, white, grey and red follows Alfa Romeo’s new special edition Giulietta Collezione and is bonded together using Simon’s signature ‘Diamond Dust’ finish.
Simon Claridge said, “I’m a big Alfa fan; my first car was an Alfa Romeo and I’ve always loved their blend of elegance and performance. When I started working on this project, I knew immediately that these spaces had to be about style icons. Whether they’re from the worlds of music, fashion or the silver screen, these are globally recognisable figures with stand out style and enduring appeal.”
A temporary gallery of Simon’s other artwork can be seen at nearby Motor Village Marylebone (105 Wigmore Street, W1U 1QY). To see more of Simon Claridge’s work, visit www.castlegalleries.com
