The Q Brunch on Saturday, which is available from 11:30 to 14:30, offers a good choice of dishes, and Quaglino’s is extremely attentive to dietary requirements, meaning that the kitchen will modify any of their delicacies as far as they can to accommodate specific requests.

For her starter, my guest headed for the beautifully-presented agave glazed aubergine slices which were topped with harissa for a subtle kick, with coconut whips dotted around the plate to finish off the elegant garnish. All of the former lay on a portion of soft polenta and lentils. I went for one of my brunch favourites of crushed avocado and poached eggs on a piece of gluten-free toast (replacing the normal sourdough) which was devoured without too much hesitation.

Diners also have the option to kick off their meal with oysters, smoked salmon or even venison tartare, so there is something to suit most palates here.

For the mains, I settled on the moist and flavoursome piece of roast trout which came with an addictive beurre blanc sauce, crisp al dente fennel and a helping of spinach. This was joined by a side of sumptuously creamy Mousseline potato (which cost an additional £5).

My other half ate the nicely-prepared chicken supreme with wild mushrooms and a Cabernet Sauvignon vinaigrette. The portions served during the Q Brunch are adequate in size, but not over-indulgent, so the flip side of this is that there is room left for dessert if you opt for the three-course menu (priced at a reasonable £29.00).

Before we set our hearts on the sweets, we had enjoyed our first round of drinks so much that we got in a second – this time it was a virgin Mojito and a passion fruit mocktail. It was then only apt that I rounded off the brunch with a selection of French cheeses (including the pungent Reblochon and some soft Buche de Chevre made from goat’s milk) which was flanked by some quince jelly and a helping of red grapes – it had been worth the wait. My dining partner tucked into a more refreshing tropical sorbet.

It rounded off what had been an excellent and nicely-paced first experience at Quaglino’s, and was definitely one that made us want to return next time that we step foot in Piccadilly.
