Montegrappa collaborates with Opera Gallery at the ‘Icons of Art’ exhibition to launch Salvador Dalí Surrealista, the new addition in the series dedicated to the legendary surrealist master
Opera Gallery is one of the leading art galleries in the world, with presence across the globe, including New York, London, Paris, Monaco, Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai. Montegrappa collaborated with Opera Gallery on the opening night of ‘Icons of Art’, a first-of-its-kind show in Dubai. It is a masters’ show bringing together the works of established artists such as Picasso, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Andy Warhol, Bernard Buffet, Fernando Botero and Salvador Dalí.
The guest of honor at the event was Mr. M. Denis Douveneau, Director of Institut Francais. He was gifted a Montegrappa ‘Giuseppe Verdi Bicentenario’ limited edition pen, made to celebrate the 200th birth anniversary of Giuseppe Verdi, one of the greatest opera composers the world has ever seen. The event was well-attended by art collectors, media and other VIPs.
‘These shows are very important to us. It is a demonstration of the quality of art we carry and helps us communicate to our clients that besides selling contemporary art, Opera Gallery leverages on more than 20 years of experience to offer the best of established artists. We are thrilled to collaborate with Montegrappa on this project and showcase their Salvador Dalí Surrealista collection alongside the original Dalí sculptures and paintings’ said Sylvain Gaillard, Gallery Manager.
Salvador Dalí Surrealista is a new series inspired by some of the most iconic painting by Dalí.
Dalí was blessed not only with technical skills, but also with a unique visual sense. He created a number of significant works so original and startling that they have entered the global consciousness. The first edition in Montegrappa’s new Salvador Dalí Surrealista series is inspired by the painting, Apparition of Face and Fruit Dish on a Beach (1938). The picture shows fruit on, or in a wine glass. A human face, in a style that would appear again in one of Dalí’s later works, is seen below the fruit, the handle of the wine glass acting as the bridge of the nose. The texture of the face is the sand of the beach, while on the sand is a cloth and a snapped rope.
Giuseppe Aquila, CEO of Montegrappa Italia expressed his excitement: ‘Dalí was a visionary who personified surrealism. A writer, filmmaker and a designer of note, he is perhaps one of the greatest artists to have walked the face of the earth. We are excited about our collaboration with Opera Gallery. ‘Icons of Art’ is a brilliant show, something that Dubai has never seen before. This is a perfect opportunity for Montegrappa to announce the launch of the new Salvador Dalí Surrealista collection, which honors the works and life of Dalí’.
The Apparition of Face and Fruit Dish on a Beach pen will be offered as a limited edition of 1,000 fountain pens and 938 rollerballs with sterling silver trim, and 19 rollerballs and 38 fountain pens with solid 18k gold trim. 1938 commemorates the date the painting was made, which is co-incidentally the date when Leopoldo Tullio Aquila, father of Gianfranco Aquila, Montegrappa’s Chairman, and the grandfather of Montegrappa’s CEO Giuseppe Aquila, started his collaboration with Montegrappa.
‘Icons of Art’ will run for three weeks starting from 14th January 2015, at the Opera Gallery in Dubai International Financial Center, on Shaikh Zayed Road, Dubai. Salvador Dalí Surrealista collection will be displayed at the gallery through-out the show.
