The Orvis Beginners Saltwater Fly Fishing Weekend 2021 Was a Great Success

The Orvis Beginners Saltwater Fly Fishing Weekend 2021 was a Success

If there is one company in the world that know about fly fishing, it’s Orvis. Following on from the success of their inaugural Saltwater Fly Fishing Festival in September 2020, they launched a new event on England’s south coast aimed at complete beginners.

The Saltwater Fly Fishing Weekend took place in Chichester Harbour on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th of June. It was a brilliant celebration of the incredible saltwater fly fishing on offer across the UK’s coastlines and a great way for those new to the sport to gain insider tips and perfect techniques.

Fishing holds a unique place in the hearts of Brit’s and its accessibility attracts everyone from first-timers to amateur and professional anglers. Some people are often confused by how passionate people can be about fishing, other’s who’ve tried their hands at fly fishing understand (excuse the pun) its lure.

An angler being guided by one of the experts

Those who took part were expertly guided and looked after by a team of highly knowledgeable saltwater fly fishing guides. The guides included Paul Haldenwang, Michael Rescorle, Neville Broad, Philip Spratt and Tom Barclay and the sessions focused on the basics of fly fishing and fly casting, followed by beach workshops apply these learnings to saltwater fly fishing.

Not only did the sun shine brightly in Chichester Harbour, giving the event some perfect weather for the newcomers to learn in, but some wonderful fish were landed on the fly too, including a brilliant bass and even a golden grey mullet.

Orvis Prizes were given out for achievements such as ‘Best Bass’, ‘Best Mullet and ‘Most Improved All Round.’ The Beginners Saltwater Weekend was open to people of all ages and abilities to learn the basics of saltwater fly fishing and bring together like-minded people to forge new friendships.

Adrian Woolford, Managing Director of Orvis UK, said, “By adding a Beginners Weekend to our Saltwater Fly Fishing Festival schedule, we have been able to introduce new people into the sport, whilst connecting them with other likeminded anglers after a year where the opportunity to meet new people has been so limited. We now look ahead to our Saltwater Fly Fishing Festival in September, which will see over 100 anglers compete in a friendly weekend of fishing at Chichester Harbour.”
