The majority of skincare products available to us today are often filled with chemicals, solvents, dyes, alcohol, preservatives and pesticides. Many of these can be harmful to us as well as some of the animals they are tested on.

And when you think our skin is our largest organ, it’s rather worrying. Fortunately, there are entrepreneurs out there who are dedicated to creating products that are both kind to the skin as well as the environment.

Sabi Phagura looks at Gypsy Juice by Sommer ElstonIntroducing, organic creator Sommer Elston. A passion for all things organic, has led this budding young entrepreneur to create a small exquisite skincare range called Gypsy Juice. Each of the five products are hand blended using ingredients sourced from all corners of the earth. Her travels have taken her as far and wide as London, Sydney, New York, Moscow and Tokyo.

They’ve been selected for their quality, purity and natural healing powers. Every aspect of the range exudes quality and organic craftsmanship, right from the product creation process through to the packaging in the shape of hand stamped muslin cotton bags and chemical and solvent free labels. Sommer, is so dedicated to the organic cause, even her website is powered by 100% wind energy.

The products and ethos of the company sounded so intriguing, I just had to sample them for myself. I got in touch with Sommer and chose to try the Moroccon Hair Rose Oil for myself. As Gypsy Juice blend is specially formulated and made fresh to order for each client based on their skin type or hair needs, Sommer sent me oil for normal to dry combination hair. Indeed the small bottle, produced in Mallorca, Spain -where Sommer currently lives – arrived in a cute muslin bag complete with the stamp of the company’s logo.

At first I thought there wouldn’t be enough for my hip length hair, but I soon learned that only a few drops were required per application. I only had to use a tiny amount in the palm of my hand and run it through my damp hair. The potion in the simple amber glass bottle promised to ‘nourish and hydrate my hair restoring life, lustre and shine.’ With a bold statement like that, it had a lot to live up to. As I began to dry my hair, I felt the comb practically glide through the tangles. It immediately felt soft on my hands and not at all greasy as I had feared. And the fragrance was certainly fresh and not at all chemically.  I was really pleased with the look, especially on close inspection to check for any fly away static hair.

The real test however, was venturing out in the snowy weather this week. The normal frizzy look, which follows after a trip outside in the cold damp weather, was firmly at bay.
