Weldmar Hospicecare's "Stampede by the Sea" Bids Adieu to Dorset

After capturing hearts and imaginations across West Dorset, the herd of magnificent elephant sculptures from Weldmar Hospicecare’s “Stampede by the Sea” has one final stop before they leave the county for good.

From 14th to 18th June 2025, every one of the 59 large and small hand-painted elephants will be gathered under one roof for a special Farewell Event at Dorchester Corn Exchange. This unique exhibition offers visitors one last chance to see the entire herd together before they head to their forever homes following the charity auction.

Each sculpture is a unique work of art created by artists and schools from across the region, with designs ranging from wild and whimsical to thought-provoking tributes. This inspiring finale marks the conclusion of Weldmar Hospicecare’s first-ever public art project, which has helped raise awareness and vital funds for specialist end-of-life care across Dorset.

Matt Smith, Chief Operating Officer at Weldmar Hospicecare, said, “We have had the most incredible 8 weeks of Stampede by the Sea and have been overwhelmed with the engagement from our local communities. From guests that completed the whole trail and saw all 59 elephants, to the photos, competitions and incredible love for the elephants, it goes to show what a big heart our county has. We’re excited to showcase all the elephants together at Dorchester’s Corn Exchange before being auctioned by Duke’s – raising even more vital funds for Weldmar.”
