Newly released data reveals that SUVs dominate the used car market, with SUV models making up seven of the ten spots in AA Cars’ ranking of the fastest-selling used cars in 2024. The Toyota C-HR is revealed as the fastest-selling model, with the Ford Fiesta retaining its spot as the most popular vehicle.
It will likely come as little surprise that SUVs lead the pack in the list of the UK’s fastest-selling cars. The 2024 list marks the second consecutive year they have dominated, according to new research by AA Cars.
Seven of the top ten quickest-selling used car models this year are SUVs, one more than last year, including the top four.
The Toyota C-HR, a compact crossover SUV that first launched in 2016, has emerged as the champion of the used car market, with this car getting snapped up faster than any other model on the AA Cars site in 2024.
In second place is the Mercedes GLA, another popular compact SUV. The Kia Niro and Volvo XC40 — both SUVs — take the third and fourth spots, respectively, while the Toyota Corolla rounds out the top five.

A separate analysis of the most-searched models on AA Cars reveals the Ford Fiesta has extended its reign at the top-to-top years.
Production of the Fiesta came to an end last year after 47 years, but it remains a much-loved used car and features one place ahead of the Ford Focus.
New entries into this year’s top 10 include the Audi A4, Mercedes E Class, and Mercedes C Class.

Director of AA Cars, James Hosking, commented, “SUVs have topped the charts for the second consecutive year as the fastest-selling vehicle of 2024.
“These versatile vehicles are highly sought after by families, with compact SUVs emerging as a particularly popular choice, suitable for a variety of needs and budgets.
“However, while SUVs are snapped up the quickest, only two appear on the list of the top ten most-searched-for cars — the Land Rover Defender and the Volkswagen Tiguan.
“The Ford Fiesta continues to be the most searched-for vehicle and extends its reign to ten years. The Ford Focus secured second place, underlining Ford’s continued strong market presence.
“Our research shows a growing consumer preference for SUVs and established brands in the used car market. Buyers are increasingly choosing pre-owned vehicles that offer reliability, versatility, and value for money.”
Methodology
¹ AA Cars search data. Fastest-selling cars based on the length of time a car was advertised on the site. In order to get a representative sample size, a minimum number of models had to be sold on AA Cars of each car to qualify for the list of fastest-selling vehicles.
