Leanne Kelsall embarked on a mission, to discover the best places to eat around Regent Street, for this article she headed to the Café at the Café Royal
The Café – London’s first dessert (only) restaurant – is part of the historic Café Royal hotel built in 1865. This is one of those very rare places that conjures up images in your mind of elegance, history and refinement from just its name.
The list of well-known people who’ve visited the Café Royal hotel is astonishing, people such as Oscar Wilde, Virginia Woolf, Winston Churchill, D.H Lawrence, Muhammad Ali and Diana, Princess of Wales have all paid this London landmark a visit. So, the combination of a world-renowned property and a dedicated dessert restaurant makes it a perfect place to visit should you happen to be in Regent Street.
As you step inside your eyes are led astray by the striking marble floor and dessert bar, before being drawn to the glass-encased pastries and cakes you’re about to indulge in.
Each evening The Café serves sweet treats with Prosecco and dessert wine pairings, carefully constructed by the brilliant Pastry Chef Sarah Barber. The mouth-watering dessert menu includes a five and a three-course menu of exciting sweets.
The adventurous Sarah in Wonderland menu is bursting with imagination and includes the savoury Milky Way with goats cheese, wild honey, and beetroot snow, as well as the floral Queen of Hearts with raspberries, champagne, and roses.
Or, you can choose the three-course Childhood Memories menu for a contemporary twist on classics. Desserts like Rhubarb and Custard and Jaffa Cakes will throw you right back to your childhood. This decadent and delightful dessert bar solely dedicated to the sweet stuff is a must-visit while on London’s Regent Street.
