The Apartments
The accommodation adopts the term apartments at The Gate and not rooms because you get much more than a room. You have three size choices from Studio to the largest Residence, which, as it suggests, offers space to stay for extended stays.

Every apartment at The Gate provides cooking facilities, black-out curtains, Hypnos bed, window seats, workspaces, Nespresso machines, walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads and luxurious Le Labo toiletries.

I stayed in a Studio Apartment, which wowed me as I entered with its colourful furniture, great space and luxury feel. The sofa is large and comfy in the main room, great for spreading out and relaxing.

The comfortable bed in the apartment

The bed is in a separate room from the living area and has a TV and wardrobe with plenty of electric sockets and lights. There is a kitchen area with a mini washing machine, mini dishwasher and a cooker combined microwave.

A large-sized fridge is also fitted into the neat, well thought out cooking site. Close to the kitchen is a good-sized dining table, and you have cupboards stocked with cutlery, utensils and crockery. You could quite happily stay long term in one of these apartments.

The other two types of Apartments are;

The Penthouse
The luxurious Penthouse boasts a large living area, fully equipped kitchen, ample dining space. A sofa bed helps with families staying or other guests. The Penthouse has Peloton bikes, available on request, allowing the room to become your gym in the sky.

The Residence
Room for the whole family to relax after a busy day sightseeing or shopping, the Residence offers superb and adaptable accommodation. Two beautiful bedrooms and a sofa bed in the separate living area, the apartment boasts a fully equipped kitchen, dining space and two bathrooms. The Residence is perfect for families, group bookings or those looking for a spacious apartment for a more extended stay.

Dining
Eating in The Gate is fluid, with lots of options and nothing formal. There isn’t a restaurant in the Hotel, but they provide a good selection of meals and drinks via scanning a QR code that brings up the menu on your phone. A staff member can then bring your order to your room, or you can dine in the guests’ lounge.

The Lounge
The impressive Guest Lounge on the fifth floor allows you to relax in comfortable chairs of all types and partake in complimentary refreshments. A drinks station with the latest technology means you can select a good range of hold and cold drinks throughout the day and night.

The lounge is open twenty-four hours a day, providing an ideal workspace to escape to if you stay in the Hotel with another guest who doesn’t want to be disturbed. It is also a pleasant environment to hold a business meeting or gather with friends if they are staying too.

Another view of the inside of one of the apartments looking towards the dining areaThe interior of The Gate is beautifully designed, colourful, relaxing and of a very high standard. It offers a luxurious stay to its guests, and you will find it meets all your needs either for an overnight stay or more extended periods.

My slight grudge was the view from my room, but to paraphrase the scene from Fawlty Towers, “What do I expect to see from a room in east London, Hoards of Antelope running across the Savanah?”

That would, of course, be superb, but I had a vista of other tall buildings, but that is not important compared to the look and quality of the inside of the room and other parts of the Hotel. In these areas, The Gate excelled.

In the surrounding area of The Gate, there is plenty to see and do if you are there for just one day or several. Being so close to Whitechapel, I visited the Jack the Ripper Museum, and in the evening, I did the Jack the Ripper walk.

You might be detecting a theme here, but don’t worry, I am not a raging maniac but an avid amateur detective and historian. On a less morbid note, you will find art galleries, bars, and lovely parks to enjoy.

The Gate offers excellent accommodation and service in a style I thoroughly enjoyed. The apartments provide perfect living space for one night or extended stays. You will find even the smallest apartment substantial, comfortable and homely.
