The Sunner Group, a leader in China’s white-feathered broiler chicken industry, has unveiled more details of the Sunner Museum in China’s Wuyi Mountains region. The museum will showcase the group’s achievements in agricultural science and technology over the past four decades and serve as a high-end platform for industry exchanges, making it a dynamic knowledge hub that will help drive the development of modern agriculture.
The Sunner Museum is located within the factory area of Sunner Group in Guangze County, Nanping City, Fujian Province. This location is in the extended area of the Wuyi Mountains, which is rich in forests and diverse natural habitats. Also surrounding this area are the clear waters of the Futun River, the highway, and reserved land.
The unique landscape of mountains and waters acts as inspiration for the architectural design of the Sunner Museum. By adopting the “recreating the mountain landscape” concept, the architects will seamlessly blend the building into the landscape.
The museum sports three curved roof surfaces that gently rise from the ground with a slight upward tilt. These roof surfaces will mimic the undulating appearance of the Wuyi Mountains while forming suspended landscape courtyards. The surface of the roofs features an interlocking design, ensuring the internal spaces are independent while maintaining smooth traffic flow.
When pedestrians climb onto the roof, they will enjoy a panoramic view of the mountains, waters, and factory area.
The Sunner Museum facade utilises folded steel and concrete plates to create a unique texture. These unique surfaces, which vary in size, shape, and function, will be found in the lower areas and public spaces such as the entrance. They resemble stable retaining walls, which will produce transparent interiors when combined with glass curtain walls.
The folded surfaces introduce light and scenery, and the diagonal texture not only assists with drainage but also helps to hide the ventilation louvres.
Four giant silo-shaped shear walls support the main exhibition hall and integrate facilities like the exhibition halls. The 25-meter-high vertical atrium between the silos makes the exhibition hall column-free and spacious, which will be extremely useful for the display of large-scale installations.
As the Sunner Museum building is subject to the hot and humid climate in Fujian, it will feature an inclined roof for rapid drainage and a roof with a thick soil covering for heat insulation.
To maintain the natural look, any equipment will be hidden away in the technical layer of the roof, allowing it to look like a green hill. When opened, the Sunner Museum is expected to become a new starting point for industrial tourism in the Wuyi Mountains area.
During the day, the Sunner Museum will showcase the achievements of modern agriculture. At night, the roof platform will be open to the public, allowing locals and visitors to experience the “symbiosis between architecture and the environment”.
The museum building will redefine the relationship between industrial exhibition buildings and nature. It will vividly portray the sustainable development of China’s modern agriculture and continue to tell the story of Sunner Group, becoming an important chapter in the ecological culture of the Wuyi Mountains.
