Uniworld Boutique River Cruises is enhancing its Exotics Collection for 2023 with the launch of its first Cruise and Rail journey in India and a new itinerary in Egypt as part of its family-orientated Generations programme.
Los Angeles-based Uniworld Boutique River Cruises is an all-inclusive river cruise line that features distinctively designed ships with an average capacity of 120 guests and one of the highest staff-to-guest-ratio in the river cruise industry. For 2023, the company has unveiled its new itineraries, and in this feature, we’ll look at what each one offers.
“We are excited to expand two of our most popular offerings – Cruise and Rail and Generations – into our Exotics portfolio for the first time in 2023,” said President and CEO Ellen Bettridge.
“Many of our guests are seeking long-haul bucket-list experiences next year, while others want to spend precious time travelling as a family or multi-generational group, so introducing a truly incredible Cruise and Rail trip through India and an itinerary packed with family fun and the historical wonders of Egypt seemed like a natural step. We constantly strive to anticipate guests’ needs and innovate accordingly, and we know these new itineraries are really going to resonate.”
Both trips come with all the hallmarks of a Uniworld experience, from luxurious accommodation and authentic fine dining to carefully-curated local encounters and onboard activities, including a full wellness programme.
Cruise & Rail: The Sacred Ganges & the Maharajas’ Express
Following the success of the inaugural season of its Cruise and Rail programme in Europe, Uniworld is teaming up with Maharajas’ Express to offer a new 16-day immersive journey through India.
The trip combines seven nights’ sailing in supreme comfort aboard the Ganges Voyager II from Kolkata with a luxury private train journey through the Golden Triangle and Rajasthan to Mumbai, spending an additional two nights in Oberoi Hotels in New Delhi and Mumbai.
Unmissable icons such as the Taj Mahal, Amber Fort and Ranthambore National Park – home to one of the world’s largest populations of Bengal Tiger – are included alongside more local encounters, stopping at smaller temples and villages along the way. The itinerary also features four MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experiences, including learning about the art of making ornamental brass objects at an artisan workshop in Matiari and a visit to local NGO Calcutta Rescue, which serves the area’s underprivileged children.
Departing on 28 October 2023, prices start from £15,089 per person sharing (after Early Booking Savings valid until 15 December 2022) and include a full programme of onboard and onshore activities, luxury accommodation throughout, most meals, transportation including internal flights, and all gratuities.
Egypt Generations sailings
Departing on 16, 23 and 30 December 2023, Uniworld’s new dedicated Generations departures will introduce guests of all ages to Egypt’s ancient wonders, vibrant capital and welcoming people.
Combining seven nights aboard the all-suite River Tosca sailing round-trip from Luxor with a four-night land stay at The Nile Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Cairo, the trip mirrors the popular 12-day Splendours of Egypt and the Nile itinerary with additional experiences aimed at keeping the whole family entertained.
Alongside must-sees such as the Pyramids of Giza, Valley of the Kings and Temples of Karnak, Luxor and Hatshepsut, activities include taking part in a family-friendly football match with local children and some of the ship’s crew, sand dune boarding and a swim in the Nile, exploring the river by bike and traditional felucca, and a behind-the-scenes visit to the Captain’s wheelhouse.
Prices for the Egypt Generations trip start at £5,579 per person sharing (after Early Booking Savings valid until 15 December 2022) and include a full programme of onboard and onshore activities, luxury accommodation throughout, most meals, transportation including internal flights and all gratuities.
A further update to Uniworld’s Exotics programme for 2023 is that the Timeless Wonders of Vietnam & Cambodia itinerary will go from 13 to 15 days, with two added days in Vietnam’s fascinating capital city of Hanoi at the end or beginning of the journey.
