William Wood’s Vintage Triumph Turns Firefighting Heritage into Gold

William Wood’s new Vintage Triumph carries the spirit of a century-old firefighter’s helmet within its crown, a symbol of courage reborn in gold. It’s more than a timepiece — it’s a story of service transformed into design.

At the New York Windup Watch Fair this week, amidst the many glimmers of innovation and craftsmanship, the British brand William Wood Watches unveils something truly special — the Vintage Triumph. This limited-edition timepiece, priced at £2,995, is more than a watch; it is a tribute to a century of firefighting history, transformed into wearable art.

Founded by Jonny Garrett in honour of his grandfather, a Newcastle & Gateshead firefighter with over 25 years of service, William Wood Watches marries legacy with luxury. Each watch carries a story, and the Vintage Triumph tells it with remarkable subtlety. Its crown, fashioned from melted-down brass of a 100-year-old British firefighter’s helmet, anchors the wearer to an enduring spirit of bravery and sacrifice.

The watch’s vintage-inspired 41mm gold-plated case is both elegant and resilient. An aged champagne dial adorned with diamond-cut markers and polished gold numerals offers understated refinement, while the bezel’s black markers lend functional sophistication.

Beneath this crafted exterior beats the Swiss-made Sellita SW510 chronograph movement, delivering precision with a 48-hour power reserve and smooth 28,800 beats per hour.

Design details glow with storytelling grace — subdials recall fire engine pump gauges, the chronograph hand mirrors a vintage fire bell and axe, and the seconds track reflects the chequered markings of historic British fire engines. The blue-tinted sapphire crystal pays homage to the “Blue Watch,” the name given to the founder’s grandfather’s firefighting team for over two decades.

Sustainability and authenticity resonate through the black fire hose strap, repurposed from rescued firefighting materials. This tactile link to the watch’s roots ensures comfort without compromising durability or purpose. Water-resistant up to 100 metres (10ATM), the Vintage Triumph is built for everyday life as much as it is for the collector’s wrist.

The timepiece's leather box

Presented in a black and gold Italian leather fire alarm-inspired box, the packaging itself tells a story of craftsmanship and symbolism. It is a thoughtful gesture, underscoring the brand’s mission to honour service through design.

Jonny Garrett will be attending the Windup Fair, eager to share the Vintage Triumph’s story with media and enthusiasts alike.

William Wood Watches’ commitment extends beyond timekeeping — every collection supports firefighter charities around the world, embedding purpose into prestige.

In a world where luxury can sometimes feel detached from meaning, the William Wood Vintage Triumph shines as a new benchmark. It is a British luxury watch that carries history forward with every tick — a gold tribute to courage that’s as timeless as the stories it embodies.
