Winter Wonderland – Ong Chin Huat is dazzled by Swarovski’s Fall/Winter 2015/16 Collection

With Swarovski’s latest fall/winter collection entitled “Winter Garden”, the tone is set for what fashionistas, socialites and style arbiters will be wearing around their necks, wrists, finger, and ear lobes this coming season.

Inspired by nature and gardens, Winter Gardens must be Swarovski’s most glamorous offerings to date. Chunky crystal embellished Duke Cuff bracelets and soft-as-lace Fitt waterfall necklaces will definitely make any heads turn in a party or social event. Flowers might attract attention in a beautiful garden but these Swarovski items will definitely get you noticed wherever you go.

According to Creative Director Nathalie Colin, “Nature is an endless source of inspiration, and after celebrating flowers in our latest Spring Summer collection, we now take flora and fauna to an autumnal interpretation. I was inspired by textiles portraying an idealized nature such as the vintage tapestry of English manors, the dévoré velvets, as well as the ornamental lace which presents feminine, romantic accents. Through the design process, we turned them into modern jewels with historic hints.” Foliage morphs into lace-like filigrees, insects and night butterflies transform into stylized pendants, in a palette of autumnal flowers and berry tones.

Zen style garden is a major influence which infuses an organic, minimal yet sensual touch to the collection. A pure and simplified design aesthetic is combined with curved metal to create an easy chic silhouette, both sleek and feminine. “Dusky” necklace exemplifies this contemporary reference to nature with repeated drop-shaped crystals which take centre stage on a rose-gold polished metal all-around base, twisted by the addition of leather. Particularly on-trend this season, the all-around shape adorns neckline with a fashion signature. The clean lines and subtle sparkle of the “Stardust” bracelet, appearing in its third season, confirms its ability to inject an instant touch of glamour into any outfit. The 730 tiny crystals in the simple wrap and the 1460 in the double version are now enclosed in a metal rather than nylon fishnet to ensure additional sparkle. Available in gold, rose gold and silver tones that can be combined to echo the mixed plating trend, “Stardust” is easy to wear and sets the tone for any occasion. The brand new Stardust necklace builds on the success of these popular bracelets. The links of this cool and modern chucky chain necklace are made of “Stardust” making it as light and supple as the like-named bracelets, imparting a festive and glamorous feel to the wearer.

The other main inspiration focuses on the autumnal beauty of an English manor house garden. Design here favours a richer and more sophisticated approach, evoking vintage jewellery, antique tapestry and lace-like filigree, in a palette of elegant dahlia and berry colours. For the contemporary woman who is unafraid to stand out from the crowd, Swarovski offers the opulent and ornamental “Dramatic” necklace. This sophisticated jewellery piece exemplifies refined craftsmanship with textures that evoke intricate embroideries. At the same time the inclusion of a modern chain fastening provides that timely design twist. Limited to a dark palette of blacks, greys and violets borrowed from the season’s fading flowers, “Dramatic”’s large multi-facetted crystal medallions are surrounded by smaller contrasting crystals hand-set using the exclusive Pointiage® technique. Equally seducing are the “Diana” necklace and ring. The metal base of the necklace features crystal stone stacking in faded pinks that reference the fall flowers theme, and the voluminous ring serves to pile on its own style of drama. The insect motif can be found in the “Daphne” pendants, which combine the classical spirit of crystals in rich gemstone colours with the more modern stylized lace-like filigree abstractions of butterfly wings. These pendants can be worn separately or combined together at different lengths to create the currently on-trend layering effect.

The sheer breadth of the Fall/Winter 2015/16 Winter Gardens collection insures that every woman can discover that coveted piece destined to transform any outfit from a LBD to a denim look into a personal statement of glamour with just the right amount of sparkle.
