Naim Audio, British manufacturer of premium audio equipment, today launched its most expensive and highest performing speakers yet. Weighing in at £30,000 per pair, the imposing Ovator S-800 is a must-have for audiophiles with plenty of space to party in.
Naim Audio’s R&D teams are globally renowned for their passion for music and the depth of research they conduct before products reach production. The Ovator S-800 is no exception, launching on the back of five years research delving into the best design to maximise the listening experience. The Ovator S-800 stands at 1393mm tall and 520mm wide, and is designed for those with larger than average rooms.
The Ovator S-800 represents a significant step forward in design and performance. A new, custom-designed flat diaphragm bass unit significantly lowers distortion to deliver clean, thundering bass lines when required. While Naim’s new Balanced Mode Radiator (BMR) unit delivers a consistent response at both high and low frequency levels, removing the need for a separate tweeter. This allows for better dispersion of sound and an increased audio sweet spot.
Contrary to traditional loudspeakers which feature cone-shaped bass units because they are easier to make rigid inside the speaker unit, Naim prioritised the performance a flat structure delivers, designing the Ovator S-800’s flat bass units with the aid of computer technology. Naim achieved the desired rigidity by assembling the bass unit in a sandwich formation and designing a special triangular-shaped chassis for it to sit in. The increased space behind the bass unit eliminates the cavity effect associated with traditional speakers, aiding the quality of sound produced.
In practice, these revolutionary technical developments mean the listener is able to enjoy music in more clarity than ever before and experience the full scale of dynamics and emotion present in the music. Naim’s toughest critics are its management and its employees. They have always believed that being honest is the only way to communicate with their customers – music lovers and numerous musicians – who regard Naim’s products as having no equals in their respective classes.
Naim has a passionate and committed interest in music. This is as true today as it was at the time of the company’s formation in Salisbury, England, over 35 years ago. Enjoyment of music has driven Naim to design and manufacture the finest range of audio equipment available. Top engineering principles ensure that all Naim products meet and exceed the measurable parameters essential for state-of-the-art performance, safety and reliability: all essential qualities for which Naim is renowned. Measurement alone, however, is not enough: every product must also deliver the musical performance that the team could not live without.
The Ovator S-800 loudspeaker will be available to purchase from one of Naim’s premium independent retailers from December.
