In celebration of the 200th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s birth, Palé Hall in North Wales has created a royal experience for guests available from March until 31st May 2019.

A visitor to the former private home 130 years ago, Queen Victoria made quite an impression on Palé Hall whose owners were tasked with building the property’s first bath in anticipation of her arrival. To mark this anniversary and her historic visit, the five-star hotel is offering guests the chance to stay in the same room as the then 70-year-old monarch, and even enjoy a dip in her bath.

The five star Grade II* listed Palé Hall is one of the finest country house hotels in Wales and the UK. Owners Alan and Angela Harper have lovingly restored the historic house to its former glory, creating a peaceful and luxurious retreat surrounded by the natural beauty of the Welsh valleys on the edge of Snowdonia National Park. Palé Hall holds five AA Red Stars and three AA rosettes.

As Queen Victoria experienced it, guests are welcomed with a fresh fruit platter containing peaches and grapes and a bouquet of fresh flowers on arrival, accompanied by a glass of fizz to toast the 200th birthday of the monarch. Staying in the sumptuous Victoria room for two nights, it’s easy to see why her Royal Highness changed her itinerary in order to extend her stay at Palé Hall to a total of ten days. Retracing Queen Victoria’s footsteps, the hotel offers a guided tour of the property and its beautiful grounds, on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, so guests can learn more about the history of Palé Hall and the local area.

In homage to the Queen’s famous sweet tooth (her wedding cake is said to have weighed 300lb and measured three yards across) guests can indulge in a decadent afternoon tea, created by Head Pastry Chef Adam Cleal.

After a relaxing afternoon exploring, dine on the hotel’s 10-course signature tasting menu which uses the best seasonal welsh ingredients available. According to The Private life of the Queen by a Member of the Royal Household, Queen Victoria was passionate about seasonality “She never permits her own table or that of her household to be served anything that is out of season.” After a delicious dinner, enjoy the monarch’s favourite nightcap, whisky with a dash of soda, from Palé Hall’s new bar.
