China steps forward with the BAIC Arcfox-7 electric supercar, a vehicle that is so pretty it makes the BMW i8 look a little average

Another of the big ‘wows’ at the Beijing Motor Show was the Chinese electric supercar BAIC Arcfox-7. It might not have one of those rolls off your tongue names but this doesn’t matter as its the incredible straight line performance of the BAIC Arcfox-7 that is the big highlight.

Expected to go on sale later this year, this 603bhp electric motor powered car hits 62mph in less than 3 seconds (0-60 in 2.8 secs). That is not far off the 0-60 time for the Bugatti Veyron and will likely cost quite a bit less!

Top speed of the BAIC Arcfox-7 is a more than adequate 162mph, it weighs in at 1755kg and has carbon ceramic brakes with six-piston calipers at the front and four piston calipers at the rear.

One of the downsides to this gorgeous looking car is the range of just 186 miles. This is very poor in comparison to its biggest rival, the Tesla, which although not fantastic in regards to range, still offers 316 miles on a full charge.

From the side profile, it is probably even prettier than the BMW i8 and with the gullwing doors is bound to attract a lot of attention in the golf club car park. This is definitely one of those cars that would turn heads.

Matching the gorgeous exterior is the futuristic interior. Word has it that the BAIC Arcfox-7 has a fingerprint scanner inside which allows only the Cheshire cat grinning driver to start the engine. The dashboard is digital, a common trend with modern day electric supercars. This provides the option to choose from Economy, Comfort or Racing modes, each of these adjust the height of the car accordingly.

The four point harness, standard in the car is an obvious essential given the rip-roaring acceleration and the option to switch to Race mode.

The BAIC Arcfox-7 – Where and how

There is no information yet as to the price of the BAIC Arcfox-7 or whether the car will be offered outside of the Chinese market when it goes on sale later this year.
