Set within 163 acres of lush parkland with the spectacular River Maine flowing through the estate, Galgorm Resort has a great unique setting.

Although just short of 30 minutes away from Belfast airports, the stunning scenery of the North Antrim Coast, makes it feel like a million miles from anywhere. Our health reporter Sabi Phagura escaped to the resort to unwind and make full use of the spa village.

Driving up the winding path leading to the hotel, you’d think this was a small country hotel. But just one foot inside the great hall, and the building tells a different story. For behind the front door reveals an abundance of communal areas, variety of bars and restaurants, 122 rooms and an impressive indoor and outdoor spa area with the River Maine flowing through the estate.

After a very warm Irish welcome and plenty of ‘good craic’, my guest Richard and I were ready to dive straight into the lap of luxury at the Thermal Village.

A quick change into our thick fluffy bathrobes and we entered this wonderland for some serious pampering. Boasting 75,000sq ft of picturesque indoor and outdoor spa facilities including the Riverside Body & Mind Studio down the boardwalk, a large indoor pool, thermal spa pools and cabins, an ice room and roomy hot tubs scattered about, it was difficult to know where to start quite frankly. But a map sitting prominently outside helped guide us around.

We were incredibly lucky with the weather during our visit, but surrounded by lush greenery it’s easy to see this hub is great in any conditions. Just being outdoors in nature here could soothe away any stresses but for good measure, the list of treatments will help you reach a level of relaxation like no other. And the Gold Quartz treatment was just the ticket to get me there.

Lying on the massage bed with warm sand beneath separated just by a thin layer of a sheet, I visualised myself being on a warm beach as my therapist Zoe cocooned me in hot quartz stones. The singing bowls took me on a journey of deeper relaxation while the top-to-toe hot quartz poultice massage left me in a rather sleepy state. But once the treatment was (sadly) over, I was left feeling rebalanced and restored. I took full advantage of this as I took a stroll around the lush grounds to use up that energy before dinner.
