Two iconic houses combine to create the Christian Dior Vespa 946, a genuinely fashionable modern scooter. We investigate this popular form of transport which is adored the world over.

I must confess I have never ridden a Vespa or Lambretta although growing up in Brighton I admired them regularly. The scooters decorated with so many wing mirrors, gorgeous designs on the Mod times of the 1960s. Motorbikes were my passion, but these did capture my interest.

The Vespa 946 had its own character and great design now it has JOIE DE VIVRE from the fashion inputs Dior has created. The French company have also created matching accessories for the on-trend owners.

Monohull architecture combined with subtle graphic lines pays tribute to the heritage of the two houses bringing the Vespa 946 Christian Dior to life. They share a commitment to the excellence of savoir-faire and virtuoso art of detail. The 946 is the symbol of refinement, the object of desire reflected by their beliefs.

The Dior Oblique motif is seen in the saddle and top case which can be purchased, fitting comfortably to the luggage rack. True Dior lovers will want the matching helmet with the motif. The limited-edition 946 creations will launch in spring 2021 in Dior boutiques around the world and subsequently in a selection of Piaggio Group’s Motoplex stores. The accessories, including the helmet and top case, will be available exclusively in Dior boutiques.

First launched in 2013 the Vespa 946 is an innovative product taking inspiration from the Vespa prototype MP6 produced in 1946. A glance at the 946 brings to mind the creativity and ingenuity that gave rise to the original Vespa.

The original Vespa and the 946 are built with passion. This clearly shows in the hand-sewn trim on the handlebars and manual fitting of the aluminium parts to the monocoque body.

Italians love their engines, and this shines in the pulsating heart of the single-cylinder 125 cc four-stroke, three-valve, air-cooled engine with electronic injection. The engine is said to offer reduced fuel consumption and a dramatic reduction of gaseous and noise emissions.

The Vespa 946 Christian Dior is an exclusive colour, following input from the Dior creative Department, this is also seen with the gold colour for the finishing touches. Real blue leather adorns the saddle and handles, with the Dior monogram on the saddle support.

On the right side of the scooter is some exclusive detailing with the “Christian Dior Paris” logo. The left side there is the possibility to personalize it. The unique “Christian Dior” logo features on the hook placed under the saddle.

If a scooter could lure me away from motorcycles, the Vespa 946 Christian Dior could be the one. It is gorgeous to look at, with superb practicality, a real bonus in the cities of today. You can nip in and out of town without paying congestion charges or parking, get approximately 100mpg and on this scooter, look stylish.
