Back in the villa, it was time for my in-house masseuse to work her magic on my tired muscles. Opting for a traditional Balinese massage, the sweet-smelling and soothing Special Balancing Oil which includes jasmine, sandalwood & chamomile herbs she applied to my body was extremely relaxing. The incredible massage resulted in a state of complete tranquillity.

For those who wish for more intensive treatments, Escape Ritual has partnered with the international beauty salon and spa K by Karima located in Canggu. Off-site visits are available where you can indulge in anything from Musico & Lumino Therapy using sound and light frequency to balance your emotions to a Crystal Radiance Facial.

The stunning villa where Escape Ritual is housed was designed by a Spanish architect. It is tastefully decorated with works of art and objects worthy of a photo-spread in Architectural Digest.

With a 21-metre infinity pool stretching the width of the villa, the different areas of this spacious home-away-from-home guarantee privacy and seclusion. There are comfy nooks and corners to meditate, read, lounge or just daydream away. A pool table and TV room cum library and an open-air yoga space complete the set-up.

Food is another highlight at Escape Ritual. Organic, nutritious and well-balanced meals – from breakfast to dinner with lunch and afternoon tea in-between are all prepared by not one but two chefs. A Brazilian maestro who specialises in European cuisine and a Balinese chef who makes delicious local fare.

Expect frozen mango smoothies with granola and guacamole on whole-grain gluten-free bread for brekkie, mee goring (Indonesian fried noodles), stir-fried pumpkin with chicken and mixed garden salad for lunch and Grilled Mahi-Mahi with Balinese Salsa and mash potatoes and Flambéed Pear with ice cream for dinner. The mouth-watering and hearty meals are reason alone to visit this retreat, not mentioning the freshly pressed juices and smoothies from dragon fruit to detox greens.
