Ong Chin Huat pays a visit to the brand new Gallotti&Radice showroom in Kuala Lumpur and is suitably impressed with their luxury furniture’s timeless and avant-garde designs.

Founded in 1955 by Pierangelo Gallotti and Luigi Radice, Italian furniture brand Gallotti&Radice exudes a contemporary flair with a timeless appeal in their designs – be it a sofa, desk, lamp, table or sideboard. Starting as a company specialising in glass, including lighting, furniture items and mirrors, it’s no surprise that glass remains its core material today, even though wood, marble and steel have since been added to their repertoire.

Characterised by high-quality workmanship employing the most skilled artisans, Gallotti&Radice is a company which doesn’t just rest on its laurels and is constantly researching and developing newer, better and more sustainable techniques in their furniture production.

Credited with designing the iconic Adam table back in 1971, this transparent table is made entirely in glass and held by chromed brass clips. It is now a design classic after it became an unexpected success when it made its debut in Milan.

Considered a bold move at the time to use crystal in its furniture, Gallotti&Radice was the first company in Italy to do so, and this novel use of glass was considered ahead of its time back in the day.

However, a lot has changed since the launch of the Adam table, and today, Gallotti&Radice has made further steps to advance and evolve the use of glass in furniture. Some of the ways they have done this are with special handmade finishes and artisanal processes. These include their Antique Bronze and Lead finish, which is created by applying various layers of paint onto the surface of the glass and their Autumn Weave and Carbon Black finish, produced by oxidation on gold or copper leaves.

With three flagship stores in Milan, London and Miami and a presence in over 100 countries worldwide, Gallotti&Radice have come a long way from its early days as a glassware company. For their latest foray into increasing their global footprint, they have opened a brand new showroom in the upmarket neighbourhood of Bangsar in Kuala Lumpur. It is their 31st showroom and extends to 6,800 square feet, spread over three levels with a wide selection of Gallotti&Radice furniture and home accessories on display.

Inside, visitors will see some of their most iconic designs, such as the Audrey sofa, Platium table, Bole lamp and Haumea coffee table. The new showroom offers a complete lifestyle and living option with different areas designed for the various parts of the home, from living space to dining, bedroom and study.

Today Silvia Gallotti, the daughter of one of the founders, is the CEO of the company, and she is the first to acknowledge that even though Gallotti&Radice has a special heritage which focuses on glass, they have moved on to a complete lifestyle collection while undergoing research on cutting-edge industrial technologies and finishes on glass and other materials.

“Gallotti&Radice designs creates, transforms and produces solely and fully in Italy with an international outlook,” she says. “The opening of our first showroom in Malaysia is a milestone and our quest to bring our Italian prestige to all corners of the world. We will continue to honour our global commitment to producing only the highest quality and timeless luxury furniture for the modern consumer.”

As their local partner, Yoong Low, the director of Stanzo Collection, said, “We are beyond honoured to be the official distributor of Gallotti&Radice. It’s a truly iconic and global brand in a class of its own that aligns with our vision and goals. Our shared commitment to refined home furnishings that makes everyday living elegant is the foundation to a true and long-lasting partnership.”
