Leave Venice’s crowds behind at this former palace-turned-five-star hotel owned by luxury hoteliers The Dedica Anthology.

The low-down
A timeless, elegant and historical hotel set in the world-famous ‘Floating City’.

Grand Hotel dei Dogi blends centuries-old Venetian architecture with modern-day comforts, offering guests an authentic experience without sacrificing on the luxuries.

The hotel might be right on the water’s edge, but it’s tucked away in one of the most peaceful parts of the city, so you won’t need to deal with crowds outside your window.

Stay here if you want to make your Venice trip a special one.

What makes it special?
You’re guaranteed a journey through history. Before becoming the Grand Hotel dei Dogi, it was home to a monastery and the embassies of France and Savoy. With its XVII-century façade, fine frescoed ceilings, brocades and carvings, it’s every inch the traditional Venetian palace.

The peaceful garden is another highlight for Grand Hotel dei Dogi guests. It’s Venice’s only hotel with more than 2,000 square metres of private green space. With caves, fountains and trickling streams, it’s a much-needed oasis of calm away from the often-crowded city streets.

Rooms and amenities
Grand Hotel dei Dogi has 64 child-friendly (and some pet-friendly) rooms, though you’ll want to book a Junior or Grand suite to experience the hotel’s opulence at its fullest.

Rooms benefit from the authentic Venetian architecture, with tall ceilings, plenty of space and precious marble bathrooms. They’re styled authentically and complimented by statement designer furniture, adding an arty feel without taking away from the period charm.

Ornate chandeliers and lamps are the centre point of every room: masterpieces from the expert glassblowers of Murano.

Suites offer extra luxuries like top-of-the-range flat-screen TVs, fluffy robes, proper slippers and designer toiletries. The beds are enormous and insanely comfy.

Reception is open 24 hours, and there’s a concierge on hand for any special requests, like babysitting or direct water shuttles to and from the airport.

Dining
The hotel’s Giardino Segreto restaurant serves traditional Italian fare. If you don’t eat at the on-site restaurant, we highly recommend enjoying an aperitif at the hotel’s luxurious lounge bar, La Voga.

For breakfast, there’s a generous and varied buffet as well as made-to-order dishes like eggs and waffles.

Things to do
There’s a never-ending list of things to do in Venice, whether it’s art, food, history or architecture that you love. The hotel offers a free water taxi to St. Mark’s Square and Murano – just give the reception staff some notice if you want to hop on. You can also opt for an easy stroll into the centre of Venice in around 25 minutes.

Near the hotel, you’ll want to make use of the peace and quiet and lap up the ‘real’ Venice atmosphere. There’s a grand neighbourhood church mere footsteps away, as well as one of the island’s hippest local Cicchetti bars and a superb coffee shop. You can’t miss them.

The hotel also has a small spa with a hot tub, sauna, steam room and all the usual treatments.
