Chur – the heart of the Graubunden region
Chur is the oldest town in Switzerland with a history dating back 500 years. And it’s the largest shopping centre between Zurich and Milan. A mix of old and new, Chur has the cleanest and freshest air I have ever inhaled. Our lovely guide Marlen Helmi-Brunold takes us on a tour of the old town with its narrow, car-free streets, Alpine flowers and a dreamy mountain backdrop.

We visit the Museum of Fine Arts and enjoy coffee at the café there, before walking up to the cathedral. There are many boutiques, bars museums and restaurants to explore in Chur. We stay overnight at the Romantik Hotel Stern on Reichsgasse – another quirky historical hotel in the old town. We enjoyed a superb meal in the hotel restaurant with warm and attentive service. Chur is the departing point for the Glacier Express, and the wonderful World Heritage-listed Bernina Express which takes you across to Lugano (Ticino) via the famous Landwasser Viaduct. The Chur Rhine valley is also a popular wine-growing region.

Exploring Switzerland by train – especially on the extraordinary Glacier Express Excellence Class – is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure combining outstanding Swiss Alp scenery, charming hospitality, and the chance to savour extraordinary local wine and cuisine.

Merci! Danke schön! Grazie Mille! Switzerland – I’ll be back!
