Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire is to host its horrifying Halloween light trail from the 21st to the 31st of October. For the spectacular feast of spookiness, the house and grounds will be taken over by ghouls, ghosts, and fabulous lights. Jeremy Webb grabs some garlic and crosses before casting his eye over what will be in store for visitors.

The nights are already drawing in, and coldness is in the air. It’s that Autumnal nip that you feel in the morning when you open the outside door and say to yourself, “summer is over.” The darkening of the days brings with it the annual celebration of all things frightful on the eve of All Saints day we call Halloween. Initially, a pagan festival to welcome Winter, the 31st of October, has been taken up as a celebration to see out evil spirits and welcome in the good.

Country estates are getting ready to host thousands of children and adults at Light Festivals, where the houses and gardens are transformed into illuminated trails. Blenheim Palace is now prepared to fright and scare you at every step along the path.

Winston Churchill’s birthplace will look fantastic, lit by thousands of lights and displays that fascinate and captivate. Young and old will be enthralled, exhilarated, and enamoured with all Blenheim offers this Halloween.

Tickets are on sale now for the perfect Halloween half-term experience, in which family and friends wander in wonder from one ghostly space to another.

Blenheim Palace CEO Dominic Hare said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with Raymond Gubbay Ltd to host a very special Halloween family experience again this year. An amazing opportunity to explore our beautiful gardens at night with new features and more surprises!”

You can gaze at the flickering flames in a fiendish fire garden, stomp through the crisp autumn leaves and find daring fire artists and grinning pumpkins aglow. Wind your way through Blenheim’s extensive atmospheric grounds filled with neon cobwebs, ghastly ghouls and wicked witches before ducking for cover from the larger-than-life spiders and beastly bats.

When you discover the Secret Garden filled with more hidden surprises, it could be a trick of the light, or do things go “bump in the night”?

There are many delicious sweet treats on offer for you to indulge in. Sip a wickedly good hot toddy or devilishly decadent hot chocolate, or you could toast a marshmallow from the sales stalls around the event.

Halloween at Blenheim Palace is an unmissable outdoor experience designed for visitors of all ages to enjoy.
