Dutch shipyard Heesen is justifiably excited to announce the launch of its 50m Home yacht – the world’s first fast displacement yacht with hybrid propulsion.
Formerly Project NOVA, the use of aluminium for greater fuel efficiency makes Home a low fuel-burning yacht and also one of the ocean’s quietest, thanks to her silent cruising mode capability.
With a speed of up to 9 knots, the 50m Home is the first in a new breed for Heesen using hybrid propulsion via diesel mechanical and diesel electrical. Both systems can be used separately or together to provide less noise and vibration. As a result, the yacht can leave ports early without waking owners and their guests. Heesen’s belief that ‘silence is the ultimate luxury’ is echoed by sensory expert Barry Smith, who worked alongside the yacht maker on the 50m Home.
“Research has shown that the brain’s processing of taste is affected by noise, which reduces the tongue’s ability to detect salt, sweet and sour,” he says. “The beauty of Home is the ability to run at a sound of around 46 decibels – the sound level of softly falling rain – enabling those on board to enjoy food and drink to the full with no diminution of taste.”
Sleek exterior lines by Frank Laupman at Omega Architects and sophisticated interior styling by Italian designer Cristiano Gatto have resulted in the perfect synergy of technology and design for the 50m Home.
The 50m Home will be exhibited at the Monaco Yacht Show (27-30 September 2017).
