Looking for new ways to detox? Try Ayurveda – an ancient holistic system of health originating from India.

Ayurveda is fast becoming a household name with all those interested in “alternative medicine”. Not only is it capable of keeping you healthy and balanced, but also can treat a huge list of ailments.   Sri Lanka’s authentic Barberyn Beach Ayurveda Resort is located on the western coast of the island, in Weligama. Barberyn Beah Resort provides all the advantages of a luxury resort hotel with the facilities of a professional Ayurvedic health center. It promotes authentic Ayurveda, yoga and spiritual enrichment and has been designed to improve guests’ health and wellbeing through Ayurvedic diagnosis, healing treatments, herbal medications, Ayurvedic diet, yoga and meditation.

Ayurveda at Barberyn
Newly arrived guests visit the health centre for the consultation and diagnoses with the Ayurvedic doctor who creates an individual programme of treatments for each guests consisting of oil, herbal massages, herbal baths, herbal medicines and liqueurs, as well as an individual diet for the period of their stay at Barberyn.

A healthy diet is an integral part of Ayurveda. At Barberyn, each meal provides various examples of all the Ayurvedic food taste categories that influence our body energy – sweet, salty, spicy, hot, cold and bitter. There is a trained Ayurvedic dietician on hand at every meal to advise guests on the foods to take and avoid according to their prescribed treatments.

Barberyn encourages self-awareness and spiritual development of its guests offering yoga, Tai Chi and meditation classes. There are no TVs in the room to encourage guests’ self-reflection and create a tranquil environment. There is a library at the resort with a wide selection of books. Regular sightseeing trips to the surrounding countryside are also on offer for the guests.

Awards
Barberyn has been awarded Sri Lanka Tourism Awards in the category “The Best Niche Operation” in 2007 and 2009; in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 the resort won in the category “The best host hotel – Ayurveda Tourism”.
